Dear MyLotters,

Hari Raya and at my town here, there will be a malay food fair for
one month during the fasting period.
I saw lot of supermarket are selling dates(in malay called KURMA).
I like to eat dates, but it is very heaty.
During the fasting period, Muslim people will cook all kind of
delicious food and snacks and cakes for selling.
I never miss the chance to dropby the food fair and buy some
Malay food.
So what is the best food to serve during the fasting period??
Share your thoughts..
I wish all muslim people : Happy Ramadhan!!

Hi,
Yes...I like to eat KOLAK,one of my favourite
dessert and my mum used to cook it for tea-snack.
I have not been eating Kolak for more than 1 year.
I just feel lazy to cook it myself although
my mother has taught me the method.
I also like to eat ice cendol,it is best to eat with sate padang.
Once a while, I will make ice cendol for my family.
I will buy ready -made cendol from supermarket and just add
other ingredients in.
Ice cendol and kolak is the best dessert in Indonesia.

Hi shia88, here the situation is the same and I can see imported dates from different countries are available in the hypermarkets here a week or so before the fasting month. Dates from different countries look a bit different in their respective appearance. both my husband and I are date lovers and of course we never let go the chance and pick two packs of dates from different countries. I like to take one after having meals. Really delicious
I have acquired some info about dates online. After reading the articale I then come to know dates and yogurt or milk are a traditional first meal of mulims when the sun sets during Ramadan. All the three foods are healthy and nutritive food. That's why we can see so many dates are available in the market during the fasting month. I think I shold get another couple packets of dates when visiting the nearby hypermarket this afternoon.
Happy posting!

Hi,
I always saw lot of dates selling in supermarket
a few weeks before the Ramadhan and I also know it is a must food
for fasting, however, I am not sure what is the benefit of eating
dates during that period.
I believe it is a nutrition food, that sure it gives healthy
benefit to Muslim people who are on fasting.
I saw varieties of dates selling in supermarket and they
are from different part of the world.
Some are not cheap and Normally I will go for the moderate one.
I always keep the dates inside the fridge before eating them,at least,
when it is cold, they taste not that sweet.

Hello Shia,
Dates are rich in iron and natural fibres. It also contains minerals and several other essential vitamins. It means ‘one date’ is minimum of a balanced and healthy diet. That is the reason for eating dates for breaking the fast. The people who are on fast never feel tired after eating the delicious ‘dates’ and of course after the day long fast they need nutritious food too.
I am not good on doing fasts

During fasting month, the Muslims sell Ramadhan food at the stalls in most housing estates where there are Muslims. I used to shop at the stalls nearby my area. There
are plenty of Muslim delicious food at the stalls. Kurma is supposed to be good for breaking fast. In fact Kurma or dates is a must during the fasting period.

HI,
Around my neighbourhood, there are many Malay stores
selling Ramadhan food,from cakes,nasi lemak,fried noodle,
satay,drinks,etc....lot of food to eat and some looks
very delicious.
However, I am very concern about the hygiene.some of them
don't cover the food properly and flies are flying around.
I am so scared to anyhow buy the food and eat, worry will get
stomach-ache.

Anything light on the stomach with all the nutrients intact. I prefer food which are easy to cook and nutrient as well. There is this porridge made with lentils and meat which is easy to make and light on the stomach. I don't know why people make fried items during the iftaar...It is definitely tasty but unhealthy. I did not know that dates was a hot fruit. Normally allover the world, people open fasting with that as it is sunnath(what was practiced by prophet), sweet and rich in iron.

Hi,
For muslim people, they will have fasting month(for 1 month) once a year.
During that whole month, they can only on certain time and after over that time,
they can't eat and drink.
Of course, during the eating time, they will cook lot of nice
food with cool desserts.
That's their tradition.
