My Craft Update 8/11/09

I've been a busy bee on my crafting today....(and now typing this in twice because I tried to be slick and put in html code to break up paragraphs, but I guess that's a no go here)
I really want to go to bed, but want to keep my promise to myself to post an update here daily.
First, I hooked together all the material strips that I cut last night. They are now in a bag ready for sewing club next month to learn how to make the rugs.
Second, I cut out the material to make 3 birthday bags for my 3 granddaughters this month. I used a Sesame Street sheet for the youngest. I used pillowcases for the other 2, one with Pocahontas and the other Hunchback of Notre Dame. I paid .25 for each at yard sales.
Third, I used some of the rest of the Sesame Street sheet to cut out to make a simple baby quilt. Once I get to sewing it, it will take me no time at all to complete. Not sure what I will do with the rest of the sheet.
Fourth, I took what was left of the pillowcases and cut it into strips. Now I have a start on making the quilt using the technique that I learned yesterday.
Fifth, I worked on finishing up the dish scrubbie order for my friend. Just one more to make to complete her order.
Finally, I got the quilt I just finished up in my blujay store.
Whew!! It's almost midnight and I am going for some much needed sleep. Have a great night!
Marsha

I do the same thing, Marsha. I've used sheets that I bought from Goodwill or Salvation Army stores to make all sorts of things: necklaces, cat toys (stuffed with catnip), curtains and even pajamas for my sons when they were little. It's amazing what can be done with a little imagination.
I haven't tried quilting yet but that's something I plan to do one of these days. Some hand-made quilts I've seen are absolutely stunning! My ex-husband's newest wife makes quilts and some of them are beautiful. I envy the patience it takes to make them.
Isn't crafting fun?

I would like to do some quilting. I have enough fabric to do it with. I have made some quilted pillow tops. I have gotten some good deals on fabric and yarn at thrift shops. I would love to see some of the stuffed toys you saw at the craft fair.

(love your nickname btw, mentalward heehee)
i too love going to salvation army or similar thrift shops to find inexpensive items that can be turned into other things. my favorites are ties, gloves and if they are unused, socks! (some places sell brand new items along with their gently used stock).
i saw a girl at a craft fair last weekend that makes stuffed toys out of knitted gloves. they are incredibly cute!!

Lately I seem to sacrifice sleep to get other stuff done, but it has not been crafting so far.I am interested in knowing what a "tooth brush rug" is. You were very busy. I tend to start things and not finish them. I am cleaning right now and found three scrub shirts I cut out, and it has been years since I worked in a nursing home or my hubby did. More cleaning adventures today.

LOL Hi Gerty. I do exactly the same thing. I have so many unfinished craft projects I've lost count. I have, however, been trying to get them all finished before starting another but I've been eyeing some yarn and a new knitting pattern I just downloaded recently. Darn the internet!
I get impatient if something takes awhile to complete. Maybe it's boredom, I don't know. I just like to keep going and sitting too long with one craft isn't much fun, to me, anyway.

I too am like both of you. I start project after project and never seem to complete any of them these days. Like you mentalward, I get very impatient if something takes too long, or if I make a mistake...I put it down and never seem to get back to it. My latest project is quilting. I have since bought the fabric, lets see how long it takes me to complete it...LOL
