The tree I planted in 1973

Friends from 1973 to 1975 I worked in a college in a rural area. This college had vast land around it, but all barren. So we a group of young lectures started planting one tree each on the ‘Foundation day’ of the college. This is continued there. Today I got invitation from the present Principal of the college; who is an ex-student of mine, to come to the college on 15th August, our Independence day and this college’s ‘Foundation day’ , as chief guest; and see the tree that I planted in 1973, it has grown up to a big tree. I feel so happy and excited to see that. What about you, do you plant trees on special occasions? Please comment and share. Professor

dear professor, during my high school and college days, we were required to plant a tree each as graduation requirement. a whole group of students go in some rural area and plant a tree. i remember planting some place called toril. it was a narra tree. i am sure if the tree grew up, it would be a big tree by now. it has been more than ten years since i did. thank you for this discussion. am sure you are very proud to see it for the first time after a very long time. ann

I wish I could plant a tree and after years passed by, I will sit on its shadows and proud to say that I planted this tree. I plant trees by joining tree planting in some areas of our city. But these areas were really far so I couldn't visit it anymore when it grow since I won't remember the exact tree I planted.

That is great. Such a gratifing thing to see the sapling you planted to have grown into a full bloom tree. I had planted one hybrid guava in my own house a few years ago and within 2 years it has grown so well and also yielded lush ,healthy guavas. Now I have relocated but the memory is evergreen.

I've never had the opportunity to plant a tree, but it is something that I would like to have the opportunity to do that at some point in my life. I think that it is really neat that you've been invited back to the college for the celebration and it must be really exciting to know that you are going to see your tree full grown? I guess the real question from me is if you are going to be planting a tree again this year?

In the US we have Arbor Day once a year. Everyone is supposed to plant a tree on that day. Unfortunately, even if everyone in the states did that we'd never be able to keep up with the devastation caused by deforestation, both man made and by nature itself.

Happy Independence Day! Yes I plant trees on special occassions, and whenever I feel I need to. At the rate that 'man' is cutting them down nature can't possibly keep up-- so I plant them as often as I can. Just planted 2 this spring in the yard around my house. I have to water them often, because it's been dry here, but it's worth it. You must have been so pleased to see how big your tree got....

Congrats sir, I think you must felt honored and I can understand the happiness. Now what you felt as important the ‘tree’ or your ‘student’, I think both . It is really excited to know about the tree, which is still there and grown enough. I had the habit of planting tress when I was a child. I planted jackfruit trees with my mother and now it is giving fruits. There is some other plants too which is grown tall and I felt happy to see the same on my visit in my home.
