Do you still put your right hand on your chest while singing our Nat`l Anthem?

This morning, I was asked by my cousin who worked abroad to get her Transcripts of Records from her school. I did. So I did not sleep and went straight to their school. Their university happens to be one of the biggest here in Cebu. I could see all the students from elem to high school and to college. I was a little early so I decided to go to their cafeteria just located in the ground when the bell rang. Flag ceremony. During the raising of the flag, I noticed that most of the college students, the staff of the cafeteria and some random adults doesn't put their hand on their chest while singing our national anthem. I got glances though because I did put mine in my heart. I've observe that they just stand around waiting for it to be over. I was a little disappointed and I don't want to judge them. How about you, my fellow Pinoy lotters? If you were in my place, would still put your hand on your heart while singing our national anthem?

I still do and still stop when our national anthem is being sang. Here in Baguio, at SM cinema, if you are caught sitting while LH is being aired, guards would point a flash of light on you.

hi totallyhundecided I am not a Pinoy but an American and I have noticed a lot of young people omit the right hand on the chest here. Its more middleaged people and older ones who pay full honor to our National Anthem. so you have the same problem there too? I would keep on putting your right hand on your chest, it denotes patriotism.

proud - national anthem
this is sad my dear friend. but i have seen this kind of misconduct since high-school and college. what we can do, with all the bad news that are being shown in televised news, who would say they are still proud, most specially this generation. People would claim they are proud if there is a celebrity doing it for them, and that's unfortunate. i hope time will come that all filipinos would show how proud they are despite of our problems.

Yup I guess it is no longer required in schools to put the right hand on the chest when singing the national anthem. I can't blame them thou, time has really indeed changed. Our sense of nationalism has long been gone. I wonder how we can bring that back. I also don't usually do this. But at times when ever I hear the national anthem I usually stop in attention. If you happen to watch last full shows in the cinemas you will notice that they always plays the national anthem and people really put their right hand on their chest. Probably the act of placing your hand on your chest will depend on where you are and if you can see the flag or not.

I did witness some people who still place their hands on their chest during the last full shows in cinemas. Some don't even care at all - like they just sit around waiting for the song to be finished. Also, I think National Anthem is also played before the beginning of the first shows in movie theaters. Just like you, whenever I heard LH being played, I stopped. But still put my right hand in my chest. Got little patriotism left inspite of troubles and crisis we're facing. But whenever I am home and get to witness the very last part of a local channel's airing, where they are signing off, I don't put my hand anymore. LOL. funny to elaborate it. Just sharing though. And you are very right, there are some changes that time gave us that give us a massive effect. Like the little love we have left for our country. :D Thanks, diogz. I hope you'll accept my friend request. Cheers. :D

i believe filipinos still have Love left, but not as patriotism as we see in China, South/North Korea and Japan. we have lost our path some where since the exposure of corruption. i believe corruption and traitor-ism is what turned us to what we are now. i hear most people saying that "there's no hope to our country" most specially the other day when i applied for NBI clearance

I think their mood also affects how they react when they hear LH even on the radio. Funny to think even politicians when they start their morning ritual I also seldom see them put their hands on their chest. Speaking about love of the country, I am not sure about this that Filipinos has little love left. I think they just don't show because they feel it is outdated.

times have indeed changed. i still do it whenever i find myself in this ceremonial thing. a sign of my love for our country despite of being too f*cked up. :) but i don't sing and I'm a little dubious about the "Panatang Makabayan." i don't think i can still memorize it. :) Good day, Pinoy Lotter. :)

True. I guess time has indeed changed most of our people. I was really hopeful that some of us still have that love for our country even though we are almost in our ruins. LOL. As for Panatang Makabayan. I am usually found stopping at the part of "Ito'y aking lupang sinilangan..." . Thanks, jamuls.

I was just curious. Are Filipinos the only ones who put their hands on their chests while singing the national anthem? Or do other nationalities do it too?
