Chicken pox vaccine

What are the odds? Well they're pretty slim, but my son actually developed chicken pox from the vaccine. Brought him in a few weeks ago for his routine checkup and shots, went home and kept an eye on him for the next few days for any reactions to his immunizations. with no problems I stopped thinking about it after a few days. Then three weeks after the injection he starts to have symptoms. My husband and I went through trying to figure out what could be wrong with him and we had pretty much decided on teething (his molars are coming in) and a reaction to the terrible weather we've been having. Then a few days into it, I go to get him out of his crib and he has a few red spots on his cheek and one arm. I assumed bug bites, but as the day went on and more spots appeared I figured I better bring him in and see what it was. Before I could make the appt my older daughter stopped by and she kind of laughed and said "it looks like he has chicken pox"......hmmmm....he's my fourth so we've gone through chicken pox and know what they look like, but I never even considered it because he had just had the vaccine and hadn't been exposed to anyone with it. so I jumped online to look it up and sure enough, its rare, but it happens. called the doctor and they verified that yep thats what it was. My doctor told me I should have bought a lottery ticket that day cause apparently we were beating the odds that day LOL. have you or anyone you know ever had this happen? what about reactions to other vaccines? Like I said, he's our 4th so we've been through a lot of vaccines with no reactions so this one really surprised me.

I've never seen either of my children have a reaction to their vaccines. However, I do know that I was one of the few people that beat the odds with chicken pox when I was a little girl (before there was a chicken pox vaccine). I had chicken pox the first time when I was about three years old. Then when I was in the fourth grade, I came down with them again and had to miss school for an entire week because I had the pox.

Nope...I've been through three and I can't say that there have been any side effects. Just the basic fever and grumpiness. I thought that I caught a bit of the flu once though when they were still using the live virus in the vaccine. I went through the chicken pox with two of my children but that was before there was a vaccine. Ya know...they say that if one ever had chicken pox that they are very suseptible to getting shingles later on.

That is so strange. I haven't had any with my daughter yet. Thank goodness. I know that my sister and I had the mumps when we were younger and have no idea where we got them, my poor sister had the mumps three time first in one cheeck and then the other and then in both before finally being able to grow an immunity to them. So we had more of those problems. We would get sick and she would be sick for a while before getting over things. At this time of year I would have thought bug bites too. I had no idea you could have a reaction for so long I thought it was pretty much right away you would get it not three weeks from getting the shot. Everyone reacts differently I guess. Poor little guy hope he is not to itchy.
