This is a question I would like to address to all the Filipinos here in mylot, are you in favor or not in favor of adding 2 years (1 in elementary and 1 in high school) in the basic education in the Philippines? What will be its implications to the future of the country?
I am currently researching on this topic and I need to get as much ideas as possible. Whatever you can share here will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! I've actually started this same discussion in another forum site.
Well as for me I am not in favor of adding two more years. I think that will be very burdensome to parents in terms of the expenses involved. They should rather make that optional. Those who want to take 2 more years to improve their craft then they could go and do but to those who want to go to college to pursue the course of their choice, they should not be obliged to take two more years in high school.

make it optional...i have to agree on that, if they will go to college then let them graduate in their 4th year if not, go on vocational in the 5th year, that will make more sense

i think its alright and a bit of not okay. it alright because other countries also have grade 7 and an additional year in high school. Future students will get the chance to learn more and enhance their skills more and probably master more the subjects that are usually by pass. Its a way of giving the students more time to understand and learn the things they need to learn. Its not okay because then some students wouldn't like to go to college anymore since they'll probably think that they know what they need to know, there will be lesser enrolled students in college, i think. Just an opinion.

but I think if the problem is the system, then they must fix it first, prolonging the years of stay is like prolonging the problem don't you think?

one of the concerns of our dear president Benigno Aquino III, is to promote quality education in order to produce quality graduates from the Philippines. Here comes the K+12, as we all know we are one among the three countries still embracing the 10 year education curriculum. As studies shown, majority of our learners are not yet ready to enter in tertiary level because of poor foundation in the elementary that's why they offer lots of basic subjects in the college because our newly graduates are not competitive enough in terms of the basics. The kindergarten will be part of the curriculum wherein, if the child failed to experience kinder, he/she will not be accepted in grade1. There will be 6 years in the elementary,4 years in junior high School, and additional 2 years in senior high school.K+12 is an avenue to reform our education curriculum that would uplift our economic and produce globally competitive students. We need to be flexible to adopt change especially in education,by 2016 the senior high school will start since on school year 2011-2012 K+12 will be implemented. by the year 2018, the first product of this K+12 will be expected.
