This Poor Weather Is Starting To Get On My Nerves

Usually, I love the summertime because it gives me the chance to wash lots of clothes and then peg them outside. When we had a warm spell (seems ages ago now) it was great because there was a constant stream of washing going out on the line to dry.
Not anymore.
What has happened for days now is that the sun comes out (yes) then I peg the washing out, then about an hour later the heavens open and it rains very hard for a few minutes. I then start pondering as to whether or not I should bring it all in again.
Sod it! It can stay out. I'm sick of ferrying clothes in and out of the house. I've already got a load of clothes on the wooden maiden in the house (which is ultra-naff by the way, it used to be John's Grannnie's..which figures) but at least I have one of John's work tops on this maiden. The rain is coming down harder now and I'm quite pleased I brought that particular item of clothing back in again.
By the way, I DO realise there are people worse off than me, like those in Pakistan for instance and places where it is too hot to breathe.
I just fancied a moan!

Hello Janey. You and me both Our summer seems to have been cut short but at least we had a better one than last year. I'm sick of never knowing what to wear when I go out, if I wear a coat it's too hot, if I don't wear one it rains. As for the washing, I just do the same as you, I leave it there unless I need it quickly. It hasn't been too bad here today but there's a nice big black cloud hanging over so it might just start to rain in time for my walk home from work Oh well, at least it's not flooding here like it did three years ago and whenever I moan about the weather I spare a thought for those in Pakistan.

Yes, I know what you mean about Pakistan...puts things into perspective doesn't it? My clothes are still on the line come nearly 10.30pm. I might bring them in later. If I don't it's bound to rain overnight, then I'll be back to square one!

You need an under cover clothes line like I have. We used to have an outdoors one in the middle of the back yard, but it broke. I already had made one up under the roof on on our back deck and now we just use that all the time. No worries about rain or direct sunlight fading clothes.

I've got one of those wooden clothes maiden thingys that I use indoors but I'd much prefer a Pulley Maid (yes, that's what they're called) as it can go above the fire up in the ceiling. Need a new fire though..need a new "lots of things" in fact!

Thats OK, it is good to learn new things about daily life in far off places!
We do not have a dryer here as they are just not needed. We do have some days where things do not dry when the air is damp outside, so we have a clothes horse which is similar to the clothes maiden thing I guess as it is a frame that we set up in our lounge room and then folds away when we do not need it. We occasionally have to use it.
But we also have no heating in our home. The houses here are mostly not built with them but we do have a little fan heater that we plug into the wall. Not very efficient though, but it works for the amount that we need it here.

Haha! It's good that you did some research (silly me, thinking you would automatically know what I'm on about) and they are a throwback from the past..apparently. We need every device going to dry our clothes. I do have a washer/dryer but to save money it makes sense to naturally dry clothes either in or outside. Sometimes, it just isn't possible though, depending on the items I am drying.

On the weather last night (the regional version) the lady said that it will be much brighter in Cumbria..well, it's dull but not raining at the moment so perhaps that is what she meant?!
For such a small country the weather is notoriously wrong on a number of occasions. The national weather is a joke because they very rarely mention the North West of England, just skirt around it being politically correct by going on about Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales every single time. They don't get their weather right either!

I used to get heat rashes when I was little. Do you have treatment for it or does it go away on its own? I hope you feel better soon.

Im sorry you have to go through all this. Maybe now is the time to use your dryer?
We've been having VERY hot and VERY humid weather here for as long as I can remember. We get one or two day of cool and then we start all over again. No way can anyone go out in this humidity and heat. Its like walking in a steam bath.
So cheer up my friend, you might be having rain, but even if you were here with all the sunshine, its too humid to be out there. So its inside with the a/c full blast.
You're right, some have it much harder than we do. At least we can moan about it, right?
I know Im going to hate myself for saying this in a few months, but I miss winter......oh to sit by the window with a nice cup of coffee and watch the snow fall.....and fall.......and fall LOL. No seriously, we barely had snow last winter, so it wasnt that bad. But no mosquitoes in the winter YAY!!

It never fails to amaze me how different the weather is around the world...and you have it all my friend don't you? I cannot imagine how hot and humid it must be where you are as having air con in the home is completely alien to us Brits. It's a necessity for you though..quite right too! Does it cost a fortune to run?

I understand your frustration.
One summer, back in the 70s, it would rain all day and then the sun would come out at 4... every day for about a month.

Aah yes, the tea-time sun! We've had that for days now...the rest of the time it's on and off rain. I live in hope that the current batch of washing will be drier than it went out lol.

Hi Janey,
I don't blame you for moaning as I was doing the same thing, lol! its summer but we know our summers here, its lovely and sunny at the moment here and I also do feel for the poor people of Pakistan and other countres that are too hot, there is no happy medium anywhere.

This strange weather worldwide is a tad worrying isn't it? We've been told that in this country, if we have a severe winter like our last one we might not have enough fuel!!
I therefore pray for a mild winter!

i feel the same,i left my washing out over night as it was nearly dry,and this morning when i came to get it in,i realised it had been raining while i was cleaning upstairs,so i've had to put it all in the tumble dryer

Annoying isn't it? I have one of those washer/dryers which certainly comes in handy during the winter but I try not to use the dryer in the summer if I can help it. Sometimes, I have no alternative. Towels, for example, would take an age trying to get dry outside and the maiden isn't really big enough to accommodate them...so in the dryer they go...when the sun is out I can get away with only half an hour or so.

Sorry to hear you've been getting rained on :]
Am I alone though when I say I don't like the summer or sunshine one bit? I don't like being cold either but I way, way way prefer cold to hot. The summer to me is one long trail of sweating, squinting, trying to find shade and dodging 1001 insects where ever I go! I look forward to the winter when I can relax heh :)

My husband is the same. It has to be really hot for him to bare his arms, he is always covered up with more than one layer of clothing. I'd be sweating buckets. He also prefers the winter to the summer. He is very fair, though, which may explain it. I've lost count of his forehead turning pink in the sun after only a few minutes of exposure.
Poor lamb!
Welcome to MyLot by the way.

Oh I so agree, it has been such a dreadful summer.
Since the children broke up we have not had a 24 hour period without rain, I have my grandson staying and had picnics on the beach etc planned but we have not been able to do anything like that.
And tell me about te washing!! My tumble dryer has been goiung like mad and I have clothes hanging everywhere - where oh where has our summer gone - oh I j=know - down South, and yet WE have the hose pipe ban!!

I know what you mean. Ever since the hosepipe ban was announced I reckon it has rained every day. What are they playing at? I do know that some of Cumbria's water supplies the areas around Manchester, which is fair enough as we haven't the same, large population here..but I bet the southerners get some of it as well. Did you know we have to import water for industry because we don't produce enough. We export some as well!
The world has gone mad! The clothes have been out a full 24 hours now so I'm hopeful they are dry lol. Good luck with trying to get yours dry.

you love the summer time i think you are in coolest place...
more countries affected in summer time.. you like summer time because you say my washing cloths are dried easyly... it is your side.. but more side of summer time... heave drain in water.. near by 48 degree sun light more swetting on that time.. any work did not be done on that time...
in desert countries in summer time 24 hours ac needed... he didnot went at outing on that time....
so summer or coller depending upon that situation only... so you can manage the summer time in rain..... you enjoy well satisfied well

I suppose if you are born somewhere that is hot all the tiem you get used to it..but even then you can have unusual weather. Many places that are hot are VERY hot at the moment. In the UK we call it a drought if we have a few days sun. Bit pathetic really.
