I saw this on MSN last night evidently there is a new gene in bacteria that allows it to be resistant to most of the antibiotics that we currently produce. It has originated in India where the medical system is not as likely to identify the bacteria or have the necessary antibiotics to treat people. The scary thing is that it is being brought back to the UK by people who have elective surgeries in India (I am assuming its cheaper there), and it has also been identified in Australia, Canada and the US. Bacteria can easily swap genes amongst themselves so this new gene is worrisome because what if this gene gets into a nasty bacteria? Or a common infection? We could have have a real medical crisis on our hands. Do you think we are responsible for helping countries deal with these kind of issues, should India be more vigilant about its healthcare, should the UK ban going to India for procedures? What do you think when you hear news like this? Here is a link to the article if you would like to read it http://www.abc-7.com/Global/story.asp?S=12960423 (not a referral link).

well this is really the fault of everyone, the sick popping antibiotics without doctors prescription and doctors always prescribing antibiotics for common diseases.
