Capturing Your Life Story

I'll have to admit that I am kind of "shooting from the hip" on this discussion and I am not real certain where it is leading up to. I do think it will lead to some interesting discussion. If one of the benefits of Journaling is that one is able to capture pieces of their life, perhaps capturing a significant piece of their life story, and pass it on to future generations...then perhaps we can provide each other with some writing prompts and/or ideas for capturing life to this point. What is the earliest memory that you could relate? Mine is as a young boy on Easter morning...I was three or four, decked out in a nice suit and a sporty hat. I remember candy and a wagon, but I think I already had the wagon...I don't think it was an Easter present. I don't remember Easter Eggs. My grandma has a picture and I've always remembered that picture. What is your earliest memory of your parents? I don't know that it is my earliest memory of my parents, but I remember my dad working at Lego factory...so I always had lots of Legos! What is your eariest school memory? I remember my first day of school...I thought my mom was coming to pick me up and didn't get on the bus! Who is the earliest friend you remember? I remember a neighbor named "JD" when I was in Kindergarten. I think we went to Sunday School together, but I'm not sure. I do remember going to Sunday School and also have a very bad memory of a little girl sticking her finger in a fan :( Maybe your questions are different, but the point is to grab some early memories before they escape you. Learn how to tell a bit of a story and get down as many elements as you can...for instance, if I'm writing something about my grandma, I may well describe what the kitchen smells like...what items I might find in her house (as many of them are not around anymore) or things like that. Get as clear as you can. If you're really brave, you might ask another family member if they remember the situation your are writing about. I'll share one of these days about a time I did that...it still freaks me out how that worked out...you'll be suprised...I promise!
