Are you afraid of Friday the 13th?

Much had been scripted about this particular ominous Friday, and films had utilized this doomsday in many a suspenseful and horror movies. Actually, the myth emerged from a 13th century torture proliferated by King Philip. Something to do with the Knight Templars. Execution was conducted on a Friday. I forgot the relevance of 13.
But today is the 13th day of the month, a Friday, and here in the Philippines, a payday. The working force will be gallivanting in the malls, either shopping till midnight or sipping coffee at Figaro. What could be dire a foreboding in that scenario?

I make fun of the ones afraid of this day as well. I have two black cats so it really freaks people out when they enter the house on Friday the 13th. I just laugh...lol

If you believe in God, you believe in His awesome power, you believe that "all things work together for good, to them, that love God", you will not be afraid of Friday the 13th. Because, you believe God is always on your side.

True. Be not afraid. Our Lord said that many times to His disciples in the course of preaching the Kingdom of God.

Hiya eileen,
I might not believe in it but today in Spain and on the border of Portugal there have been some very serious fires started and not by chance it seems. So I would think it just by chance that things happen on this date.
Two Firemen have lost their lives today in one of those Fires. There have been numerous Road Accidents and severe Flooding but again this can happen any time of the year without it being the Thirteenth.
Is that King Philip of Spain you mention there? Did he start off the superstition then?
I would not be surprised if he did but to me it´s nothing more than that superstition although so many bad things have coincided today.

It was King Philip IV of France. He ordered the execution of the Templars Knights headed by Jacques de Molay.
Si! There are many strange occurrences here, too, today. But there were more the other day.

Hiya eileen,
Ah it was the King Philip of France that´s him. I´m not much into that kind of history but I will get around to it.
Yes things much worse than that happen here on any given Day of the Year and it does not have to be Friday The Thirteenth.
In Spain the Day for that superstition is Tuesday The Thirteenth so now that makes two lots of Days.
For me just a load of hocus pocus but there are things that make you think sometimes.

Hiya eileen,
Hey you are right the 13th should be celebrated instead of making it a cursed Day so to speak.
It had to be Spain to start all that Tuesday 13th off would´nt it?
I did´nt know Greece had the same idea wonder how they got theirs or which one got the idea first or maybe at the same time?
Whichever way round it is you are right there are enough Doomsdays going around to last us all a lifetime.
Well one thing for sure you can´t stop them trying to avoid walking under ladders or Builders constructions and there are loads of those here.
Black Cats are not so common as not many People have Cats at all.
But with the ladders and all the other things that is enough really enough don´t you think? Take care now.

My daughter was peeved yesterday. The public utility vehicles were minimal. The drivers avoided the Friday the 13th jinx. They went on a day off. The result: commuters packed at the waiting areas for several hours. My daughter arrived home at 7 pm. Her class was over by 3 pm.

I don't think there nothing to feel aghast of the mysterious connotations of the friday the 13th. It is purely superstitious and a mere product of the wild imaginations of our ancestors that were passed on to us. Let us not be guided by this wrong notion because proof of it is wanting. Just believe that every day is a lucky day for us because god has given us another opportunity to enjoy his creations.

I love Friday the 13th. My niece was actually close to being born on Friday the 13th. Anyway, it isn't a bad day, for most people, like me, it's lucky! There are actually a lot of sales this weekend, and the movie I am dying to see came out this weekend.
Everyone please go see "SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD!" In theaters now!

I used to be nervous about it, but as nothing bad really happens unless you're in the mindset that you're sure it will, I think it's just superstition.
My sister's partner is going over to Afganistan on Friday the 13th, for seven months without leave. I'm praying for him and telling my sister that Friday the 13th is nothing to worry about.

Hi, eileenleyva. I personally don't like this day. My aunt's Birthday is today. I don't like the number 13 at all. I was thinking about if something bad could happen on this day, my mind wandered off in so many places. I will be staying at home for tonight. I do plan to go out tomorrow morning though.

It is the 13 that you are apprehensive about. Well, it is really odd especially because it is 1 in excess of a dozen and is therefore difficult to count. And I never heard of anyone claiming 13 as a favorite number except for my cousin who was born on April 13. His birthday almost always falls on a Holy Week. And when Good Friday is a Friday the 13th, we really agonize.

jamed, people tend to associate this date with many factual occurrences, one of which is the Templars story.
I just learned that Spain and Greece observe Tuesday the 13th as a doomsday. It was because of the relative position of the planet Mars.

I;m never afraid of 13th days. I just ignore the fact that it is said to bring bad luck and all that stuff, and concentrate on what is really important. I for one, had a nice day today. So I believe it's all about how you see life, how much emphasis you put on superstitions and how much you believe it; because if you are superstitious, then you internalize the beliefs and thus, you unconsciously act in an unlucky way.

November 13th of last year was a friday, and my birthday too! Now, imagine that!
It's just a matter of how people understand things. Friday the 13th
might be that frightening but it's how you interpret it. It's all in the mind.

Friday the 13th has always been a very good day for me. My husband proposed to me on Friday the 13th and that was 40 years ago and we have been together all that time. I have always had good things happen on Friday the 13th. I am not afraid of it and am not superstitious of it or other silly things like Black Cats or walking under ladders. I have a Black Cat he is an awesome kitty, His name is Syd. He is a sweet cat. I have walked under ladders with nothing bad happening. I think often if people are worried or superstitious like thinking Friday the 13th brings bad luck or something then they invite bad vibes and things to happen more and if think on the positive then good things are more likely to occur. Pay Day hey that is usually a good thing and shopping or relaxing over coffee is also. Have a wonderful day and may it be full of good and fun and wonderful surprise.

Well, a plane crash should be the type of scenario for a Friday the 13th. It feels like the type of thing that bad luck could affect is most likely to be the type of thing humans have the least control over (ie. someone trying to navigate in the sky). Just a few birds can bring a whole plane down. My aunt and uncle is flying today so hopefully, I'm just paranoid.

I stayed home, too. All was quiet. I was reading some of the posts here when I heard the bathroom door thud. I stood up to investigate what could have caused the bang. Nothing. I sat down again. The door thud again. I stood up again. The door was still. Looked out the side window. The leaves outside swayed. There was a gentle breeze.
For a moment there, I did get .
