When I was a child I wanted to become an elementary school teacher and I wanted to teach Danish, because I was interested in literature and writing. I wanted to work with children, and I was more interested in becoming an elementary school teacher than a high school teacher.
If I had to teach high school I would choose to be become a psychology teacher, because I am very interested in psychology. I would try to avoid subjects like physics and chemestry, because I have never been very good at those subjects.
Today I am not a teacher, but I still like to write and I read a lot, and I have worked with children in other ways for instanse in kindergardens.
If you were a teacher and you could choose any subjects you wanted, what would you like to teach? Why? Would you prefer to be an elementary school teacher or a high school teacher? Why? Which subject(s) would you try to avoid?

If I would be a teacher, I would love to teach Mathematics and Physics. Those are my favorite subjects when I was in high school. Book Keeping is also good as well as English subjects. How I wish I am a teacher!

I think that you are much better at physics than me when you would like to teach the subject. I don't think that I could do that, it was hard enough for me just to pass the exam Math would be a little easier for me, but I am better at languages like English and German.

oh I remember those days in my early years of elementary school when i was so determined I was gonna be a teacher and when holidays would come I and a bunch of my neighbors and friends would play school in our backyard and I always was a teaher, because I wanted to and because they wanted me too lol
either way, when I grew up a bit I figured teaching is not really what I was into anymore and I also learned all the pro's and con's and it didn't seem so easy anymore as it was saying it. However if I'd still want to be a teacher I'd probably choose any subjects that would have to do with astronomy and space, because I like that. Also foreign languages would be my second choice probably, because I love learning and knowing to speak different languages. Or even history, because I love learning history of different places and cultures.
as for the school I'd probaly want to teach as a high school teacher. Simply, because I don't have very good nerves with small kids in elemetary schools lol

You story sounds like mine. I was also determined that I was going to become a teacher, but I ended up choosing a different education instead. I find astronomy interesting, but I have never studied that subject at school. I love foreign languages, and I have studied English, German, French, Italian and Japanese. If I had to teach a foreign language, I would probably choose Italian Which languages have you studied?

I'm glad you can relate. :]
well besides being determined I'd be becoming a teacher later on I was also determined to be a cop and journalist, but I'm glad I didn't go this way xP I ended up choosing business school and even though I'm still not sure that's what I'd like to do, I kind of like it.
oh same here. we had astronomy classes at school too, but they'd always be in the evning and I was too lazy to go in school in the morning and in the evening again, so I never attended, though I kind of regret it now, because I'm really ineterested in this subject.
that's good. japanesse and chines have always seemed like the hardest languages to me, so thumbs up to you on learning one of those!
So far I've studied english, spanish, german, croatian and russian. though I'm only most fluent in english from all of those, because I kind of lost ineterst after awhile or I moved on to learning another language and by now I've forgot a lot.
either way, I'd really like to learn french and svahili someday, those two really sound like cool languages to know to me and also I like italian too, mostly their accent xD
I've also developed some 'crush' on british english lately too, though I've always kind of disliked it, because I could hardly understand anything lol, but as with italian I also love british accent.

Hi Porcospino, I believe it's a meaningful job to be a teacher, for I could impart the knowledge I possess to the children. Wow, it's really nice if I were given the chance to be a teacher here! I love to get along with innocent children, therefore I would like to choose to be a primary school teacher of course. I don't have confidence to teach teenage students in secondary school I prefer to teach and learn together with kids who are below twelve. To me, I'm not a professional trained teacher. Definitely I find it's a great difficulty to guide youths who always go against everything most of the time during their puberty.
I like to work and to enjoy life at the same time. So I would like to pick the subjects of music and mathematics. How a great pleasure to sing and to learn notes, to play simple instruments together with the lovely kids. I find content if the kids are good in calculate arithmetic questions in the class, and solve the same problems in daily life.
Happy posting

I like children a lot, and I would also prefer to be an elementary school teacher. I have experience with small children (3 to 6 years old) because I have worked in a kindergarden. I really liked that and I sometimes miss that time, but I also think that it could be interesting to work with children who are a little older.

I would want to teach history, but I would want to teach the lessons that should be learned from history, not just the historical facts. History repeats itself because too much emphasis is placed on learning the date and time of the occurrence instead of learning the circumstances and the results of the event, and how not to make the same mistakes our ancestors made...

If everything goes well, I'll teach german literature in a high school! I have 2 more years at the university and then I'll go back to my former high school, but then as a teacher not a student!!
I can't wait to be a teacher!
Have a nice day!

I think English and crafts are interesting subjects to teach. I like languages and creative subjects. I have been asked once if I wanted to teach art or teach the students the techniques that I use in my paintings, but right now I prefer to concentrate on my work and my studies. I feel the same way about physics as you, I have always found that subject hard, so I am probably not the right person to teach a subject like that.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah teaching elementary students is better than high school students because kids tend to listen and behave more than those who are older. As for me, I never wanted to be a teacher but if I were to choose, I am really interested in the subject History whether World History or my country's history (Philippine History). As for what students I'd want to teach, I guess I don't mind teaching for either elementary or high school students because my main goal is to teach and not to choose who to teach. :)

I also like history, especially the history of own country (Denmark) We have had many different kings in the past, and I find it interesting to read about their lives and the different periods of the Danish history. I don't know World history that well, only some of the most important events, but it could be interesting to learn more about that subject.

hi porcospino if I were a teacher it would be high school, and'I wou ld teach Music, and Writing,.creative, and Dancing too. These belong together
but I could never be a teacher as I have not got the patience to uphold good discipline in my classroom. I would be a nervous wreck screaming at the teenage little brats. I love to read, and write and listen to mozarts music.

I don't know Mozart's music that well, but I like the music that I have heard. One of my friends used to play a certain piece by Mozart, it was very beautiful and a little sad, but I don't remember the name of it.

I would teach History and Geography, which might sound weird to some, but I am really interested in those subjects, and I always have been, so I feel like they are the ones I would be most suited to teach because of that. They were also my favorite subjects when I was in school myself!

I like history, but I used to find geography pretty hard. I liked to learn about the different countries, rivers, mountains etc, but we also had to learn a lot about climate and things like that and I found that difficult. I like to learn about the history of my country. We have a long history with many different kings, events and periods. Do you have a favourite topic in geography or history? (things you are epecially interested in learning about)

You know teaching is my first love. But I only reach 2nd year in Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. How I really want to be a teacher but I haven't finish it because of my early marriage. But if I were to teach, I want Biology because I'm so interested in sharing my knowledge in that field. I want to teach high school students because they are already mature enough and it will not be hard to talk with them. But I can't teach math because I'm not really good with numbers. :-)

Before I went to nursing school I wasn't especially interested in biology, but at the school we studied many subjects related to biology and I got interested in biology and wanted to learn more about it. I found chemestry hard, but we had some good teachers and that made it easier. I could probably teach math in elementary school but not in high school, because I am not that good at it.

This is very interesting subject that gives to grow up children with education. I like the topic you have mention in mylot. I am not a teacher but I know some of the roles of teacher. As a teacher, it is not easy task to give the learning to the students. They must prepare the lessons before teaching in the class otherwise it will be meaningless. Some of the parents are neglected them to prepare their lessons and so they give them the tuition. Giving tuition is not the good education and some of the students are very lazy to learn itself but needed tuition from their own teacher. In my past years I experienced myself as a tuition teacher, at that time one student who does not obey his parents is very difficult to handle with him. While giving him tuition, he needs some rest for sometime and sometime for food also. So, I scolded and shouted him for not interest on reading and prepare for the lessons. But I feel guilty for showing my actions because some of the parents does'nt understant how the teacher's struggling is difficult to handle them. Suppose, if there is no learning process of education how can we know to type in computer also? Think it...........Mostly I prefer to teach them the lessons are health education, geography and mathematics. Teaching process of giving idea from the outside knowledge is the good way to teach them so that they can learn quickly. But now these are all gone to somewhere place like a dustbin I mean forgotten.

You have some good points. I have never really tried to work as a teacher (except for small children in a kindergarden) but it must be a difficult situation to be a tuition teacher for someone who isn't interesting in learning and who makes excuses all the time instead of concentrating on the things he was supposed to learn. That would have made me frustrated I think. Teaching the small children new words, how to get dressed, how to draw, how to use a pair of scissors etc was a different experience, because they were usually eager to learn, and I enjoyed teaching them new skills.

If i was a teacher in a school, i would take up subjects such as Mathematics, Accountancy, etc. Basically a high school teacher. This is because right from the very first I have had interest in Maths. Mathematics I would like to take for both elementary as well as high school. Accountancy obviously can be taken only for high school. And as far as subjects which i would like to avoid, they are theory subjects such as Geography. Even history as a subject I can take up, because it is basically like story-telling. If the subject is presented in an interesting manner, the students also would be more attached towards the subject. Another reason for me choosing to teach practical subjects such as Maths and Accountancy is that, there is logic associated with these subjects. So they will work according to a framework only. This I feel I can teach well to the students as I will aim at first instilling the subjects' logic into their minds, before going in depth. At the end, I feel I can teach almost any subject related to Commerce in high school, and any Mathematics related subject in both elementary as well as high school.

In my country accountancy is not a high school subject, you have to go a different school if you want to learn that, so our countries are probably different in that way. We study math in both elementary school and high school. I like math, but I am not that good at it. I might be able to teach math in elementary school but not on high school level.

Since I suck at math and science type stuff, I would probably teach music. That is what I went to school for and had every intention of becoming a high school music teacher. That plan got derailed for a number of reasons, one being that music programs in schools are being slashed due to the ever shrinking education budgets. That's a shame, because music is what kept me in school and I'm sure I'm not unusual in that regard. Many kids just aren't academic in nature and it has been proven that music and art feed a part of the brain that is necessary for cognitive thinking.
Outside of music I would probably teach English and creative writing. Those are other subjects in which I excelled.

I am sorry to hear that you weren't able to become a music teacher, I love music and I think that it would be an interesting subject to teach. I also think that creative subjects are neccesary. In my country it is possible to finish high school in two years if you skip all the the creative subjects like music, art and drama. I did that, and it was not a good choice, I really missed having some creative subjects as well.

I would teach personal education.
Basically because I love sports and I like to see other people enjoy them too, when I first started senior school ages back I coached the Junior team in my previous school and I got a lot kids who wasn't interested into sports. It was very rewarding and a few of them have went on to play low level amateur football.
This would be my ideal subject as the only other thing would be art and I'm sure there's much better people out there to do this than me.

for me, i would teach basically lower grade students as it's much more fun, although with tons of headache too. and when i saw lower grade, i mean from ages 2-14 maybe. i would like to teach maths and english.
english, mainly because, i like the language and although i wasn't perfect, i did fairly well. as for maths, although it was one of my weaker subjects, as i grew older i began to enjoy trying to solve the sums when i found out that they usually had similar methods to solving questions. it was just a matter of practise makes perfect in my case.
i would definitely avoid science and history as i can't seem to remember the facts for science at all even if i do understand it. as for history, it's the same thing. i can't remember especially the past dates and what exactly happened. hehe
in fact, i am giving private tutoring right now where my main aim for the students is for them to be able to pass their examinations and understanding the reasons, especially for maths.

If I were I teacher, I would want to teach, Critical thinking, or Money/Time Management, I think these are very important things to be learning, I would really like to find someway to simplify the concepts so they could be taught at the elementary level because I think the younger our children are introduced to these essential subjects, the more likely they are to stick, and I know that they will be used all the rest of there lives.
I would avoid things like history and English, because I did not really like those subjects, and most of what they teach is history, is What and Who, rarely Why, and hardly ever most the most important "How to Avoid"
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

I like to teach English and Science or History why because these are my favourite subjects and i can handle the students in these subjects. I can explain each and every topic in such a way that student can understand easily and they should avoid study at home. If i teach the whole thing means words by words then student will sleep in the class room itself. So i will conduct some activities between then and i will grab their concentration towards subject. They should think class room is like a play ground and each and every movement they should keen to study something.

I think it is a good idea to have different activities, it is often hard to keep on concentrating when you are "just" listening to the teacher, that is my own experience. When I was child I had a religion teacher who was an inspiration for me. He knew every story in the bible by heart and he was very good at telling the stories and keeping our attention. We were allowed to draw while we listened to him and that was a great combination, because we were active and we learned a lot at the same time.

If I become a teacher and given a choice what subject I want to teach, I would like to teach Math and Physics.
I like math very much and by always doing well in math subject just show how passionate I'm on math. I will be very upset if I cannot do well in my math test paper and I always try to push myself to understand more about math.
I also love physics. Physics and math have two thing in common. Formula and calculation. To understanding math we need to understand the formula which will enable us to calculate the problem. And so is physic. We need to undersatnd the formula and then we can do calculation.
I don't like subject that I need to memories all the fact like history.
