I am busy.(*Who is not ?) But, what are you busy with? Is it just sugar-coating

well, .. whenever I call someone, either on the phone, or on the email, ... I do get the one sentence: "I am very busy right now, ... can I get back to you later?" ....
and, I started to wonder, is it truly a busy world out there? .. why am I the only one out of such BUSINESS? ..
But, some people truly seem to be busy, MAKING A LIVING. they cannot make their ends meet, and struggle to make that extra dollar. And a minute lost in talking to anyone, particularly a probing boring doctor/consultant, is income lost, for them.
and, there are this other type, who seem to be always busy, trying to spend the earnings, .. the rich folk.
--------------------------
in all, it is neither the rich, nor the poor... who could sit back and relax.
---------------------------
Where do you fit.. in the group? .. ARE you busy? or, just sugar coating the bluff?

wow, your new avatar pic is wonderful.. does it anyway relate to the ongoing RAMADAN times of Muslims? .. the MOON and a star..

and, dear sweet angel, saphy, .. thanks for joining. It is one of the oldest excuse to avoid people. BUT, these days, everyone is using that for every contact.
How about using it sparingly, ... at least with your loved ones, and WITH me?

howdee buddy
i only say "i am busy" when i really really do mean it...but then again, there are so many ways to say it tactfully so as not to offend the person who is hearing it.
sometimes we don't realize that we say things that we ourselves think is ok & acceptable, but then we ourselves may not accept it when someone says the same thing to us..
if i'm not busy, i just tell whoever is asking that i'm not busy, but i've already allocated the time to do something else, so i'll spare a few seconds to entertain you...

oh. I got all confused with your answer. .. what is that you really projected.
that you will be polite, and not say that you are busy, even if you are? .. or,
that you will be polite enough to say that you are NOT busy, but cannot spend time with the person seeking your time? ...
whatever, ALL i want from you all is, A PROMISE that you will not use the excuse that you are busy, with your family and friends? .. thanks!

i am just projecting that i try to always be honest.. there really is no need to bluff everyone that we come into contact with.
honesty really is the best policy. at first i didn't believe that, but then i did receive a lot of comments from my friends and associates that they appreciate me being honest about whatever i'm doing at that particular time.
i simply just tell them that "i too appreciate the fact that you may be real busy with something at the moment..just tell me honestly that you're busy, and it's all ok. we can get in touch later on. even if you don't want to talk to me, just say that you're not up for a conversation or not in the mood for anything much, then it's ok too...i understand, because i'm human too. but if you lie to me and say that you're busy, just because you don't want talk to me...then too bad so sad for you. because when you lie, my trust in you disappears. and it is difficult for me to enjoy the company of someone who i don't trust.."
well...that's me. and it does seem to work for me

Oh, I just hate it when people say that to me. Yes, who is not busy? I think most of them are sugar coating cause they are busy with something but it is not necessarily making a living.
I am in the poor category, but I make it a point to have free times for friends. So, when boss texted or called at weekends, I told him that I would do it on Monday.

GREAT. ... i am honored by your sincere comments here. It is okay to keep the job at bay, to be with your loving family, and friends. BUT, if you do that the other way round.. I would feel bad.
the purpose of the topic is what you have expressed. NEVER sugar coat your words, and tell that you are busy .... to your family and friends.
. AND, you seem to be just so lovely that you are a caring person. Thanks friend.

Since I hate it when people say "I am busy, come back later", so I always give my friends and family the reason why I could not take their calls at the time. And I always manage to call them back right away. I just try to be truthful to what I say, to lie is so complicated.

I have a wild imaginative thought. Someone who is a mylotter and who knows you personally has read this discussion and you call them and ask "are you busy?" Suddenly you hear the sound of breaking glass as that can of pears falls to the floor.
"Not now," they say.
Anyway it was an evil thought.
They are probably busy doing something that if they dropped it, might get them into the hospital or cause someone else harm, like a baby in the bathtub.
One should therefore not feel it is right for a poor person to say they are busy, but a rich person is doing something selfish, because maybe he is washing the baby in the bathtub or maybe he is also writing out checks for the charity he supports.
Me I am the type who is usually doing something that would harm someone else if I dropped it - those dishes are rather heavy when there is spaghetti sauce in them.

I am a clutch. I bump into things and spill them. And I thought I was the only one. Only it would not be a can of beans. You can put that down, but when you have a dish of spaghetti, that is another thing.
I will be careful.

what made the person to lift and respond to the phone, when he/she were so busy with the can of beans? ...
anyhow, do I know you personally? .. i have a hunch that you know me, but I don't know you.
ok ok.. please be careful with the dish... :D

Well in this rat race world everybody is busy trying to outwit the other to reach success only to find themselves detaching from the fun side of life in the real world. People prefer to be in the virtual world these days and are always busy surfing the net so the excuse by saying 'I am busy' but in actual fact have become a slave of the cyberworld.

We are all busy at some time or other...but I always make time to talk to my friends and family...I learnt a long time ago that there is always time to do every thing...people who say they don't have the time are just kidding themselves...time is the same for all...is infinite never ends...we have the whole time in the universe and is equal to every one...busy? yes but when we are still alive we have all the time in the world!

I thought it was always the other way around. Whenever I call up my doctor I always add this sentence " Can you give me just a minute I do not want to waste your time" and here you are feeling that people do not want to talk to you. I do not believe this. Now coming to your topic. I always have time. Just this morning my friend called as I was having my breakfast but I took the call and carried on talking taking my breakfast at the same time. It is lousy for people to say that they are busy. "Being busy" is in and most of the time people bluff.

so very sweet of you... i would give you all my attention, if you just said that. .. I wish to take a printout, and paste that in my notice board...
" Can you give me just a minute I do not want to waste your time"
it would not give a chance to bluff, and give the excuse that one is busy. .. no sugar coated words also are required, if everyone is so damn-down to earth! .. and simple.
thanks allknowing. YOU are truly amazing and all knowing.

Hi consultrainer!.
I usually had that busy day 4 or 5 times every month so I don't wanna be bothers by others because its really hectic and I wanna to finish it as fast as I can so I can get relax after doing it.
I also said I am busy to a friend when I don't like the person and don't wanna to communicate with them because at the end it will make my head headache with gossip and bad news.

I consultrainer, you make an excellent point.
There is an old song lyric: "I have so much time, I don't have
time for anything."
I am busy a lot of times. However, I never want to hurt any one's
feelings. Therefore, I will let the call go to the answering machine
when I am too busy to talk.
Let's face it: People could be cooking, taking a shower,
washing their hair, writing lesson plans, or other work
that must get done. Especially, if they are married with
children.
Finally, I do balance talk time and busy time. My friends
know when I am working on a project, and if I know
my friends are busy I give them space too.
:)

disease. I am so glad I have my memory and my mind is still fully
functional even if I am 84 . I have to tell Kathy now when its time
for our meals, she had forgotten how to get our mail, how to draw money out of our accounts in Gold crest, and she even forgot the care taker took her in the bathroom to give her her bath this morning. She asked me this afternoon why the caregiver had not come to help here with her bath..
She said, I hate to forget. I told her the nurse hAd said if she wou ld
make it a point to find out what day of the month it was, and what day in the week she could retrain her memory.,

If I am really busy as in tasks keeps coming nonstop,I will tell the other person that I will just get back when work becomes lesser. But I will get back on the same day. Im truthful when it comes to my word. I keep my word. When I get that BUSY EXCUSE from a friend then she never gets back or anything after a year or so. I will assume that she/ he was never a friend and would just delete her in my contacts.

thanks jennbart. ... it takes the same time to tell in a different way. the other party might be BUSY, when you are free. so, i would say, STOP for a while, and listen to what is being told. Then you can say, "I will think about this, and get back to you", instead of telling that you are busy.
sorry, but .. that is what I am trying to convince people,
and, the time of an year... you are a very patient person. PLEASE BE MY FRIEND.

I am busy, yet I'm not. I have lots to do at home- lay a patio, finish a pond and turf around it, build an obelisk in the pond and install a water feature. There are 560 papers sitting in the hall to be delivered.

When friends or family call to chat I make the time to talk because friends and family are an important part of my life. When people call trying to sell me something, they usually call at dinner time when I am busy. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting down to a good meal and getting interrupted by a telemarketer.
