Do you ever go to Dr offices or other places where you have to wait for a good bit to be seen?
You can either hear the anger of having to wait, boredom, or people just sitting there with nothing to do.
I became disabled in the last 10 years and in the last 5 my rhuematologist authorized me a walker. So I got one with the seat and little basket under it.
I always bring something to knit on or if I have a small piece I am cross stitching on I might bring that along too.
But what gets me the most is people will see me doing it, and comment They could never do it they would not have the patience to do it. yet they sit in an office for hour or so with nothing to do.
I think I am the opposite and could not sit in the office with nothing to do because to me time would go slower.
I actually taught myself to knit as its easy to take with you and just stitch til the doctor comes in the room.
I also knit to send to a volunteer group that turns squares into afghans, lapghans, and baby blankets.
I wish people would not look at a craft that can turn into a gift of warmth and handmade as something they would not have patience for.
If you just tried you could either make something for yourself, family, gifts, or even as I do turn into a blanket that is very much needed for someone that might not have a home, or has to have surgery and the warmth of a handmade knitted or crocheted blanket would mean the world to someone.
Think about it the next time you are sitting in a dr office with nothing to do
and think what you could accomplish during your waiting period. you might finish a 4 or 6 inch square but its one square that would lead to a full size blanket that someone would cherish.
For all the hands that sit idle daily in this generation, think about our grandmothers and mothers that made quilts and crocheted and knitted. And there was a peace in sharing with others.
If we dont turn this around, knitting, crocheting, and stitching may be over in our last generation.
We are seeing some of these shops closing on a monthly basis. Its a shame to let a craft that can aid people that are homeless or children in need of a warm blanket. I can only knit the basic stitch, but I have make hundreds of squares to have them turned into blankets. Presently I am making a larger blanket instead of having them put all the little squares away.
If anyone is interested in the group I volunteer with and want to stitch or knit or crochet squares let me know and I will throw the link up here.
But i hope our generation can slow down and pick up some of the handcrafted items that our parents and grandparents have done. Its a shame to see all the good blankets etc not being made any longer because people would rather be sitting idle in places and be miserable waiting to see a doctor or whatever their appt. is.

Hello, My doctor is always behind with things so I go about 15 minutes earlier than my appointment which usually means I take someone's place who is ahead of me; I don't feel guilty about this as I am always early or on time while others are mostly late. I don't do crafts so much these days but I always carry a book with me. I may only read a page or two but that's better than stressing. My car has broken down a few times recently and I'm glad that my book was handy because it takes my mind off my worries and concerns.
I love that you take your craft work with you. I'm trying to get back into my crochet squares these days, unsuccessfully I might add. I have a hundred or so squares I need to join up and I'd like to do more before my arthritis stops me.

Friend actually i hate waiting for some one or for something. If i have my work and if i have to wait for that then also i really hate to wait for that time. Once i went to hospital because my friend applied for an army position so he has to undergo fitness position and for that reason he wants certificate of health reports. So he undergone for that test and then sent me to take that test results. I was waiting out side from morning 11 am to evening 4:30!!!! that is my first and last waiting for that particular thing. Then i decided not to go for such type of things in future.

Haven't you heard the expression "Hurry up and Wait?" LOL thats what the Army used to say to us all the time
I am an ex Army Vet and am just now filing for my VA disability.
My husband keeps telling me to do it since I am from Viet Nam era
I told him if its anything like SSD and I had to wait 2 1/2 years to get it then forget it!
But I try to keep myself occupied with knitting when I am out and about.
Then I dont seem to notice the time passing by.
Thanks for responding Liked your answer!

I knew how boring it is to wait for your turn to see a doctor especially if there are many patients. Its a good thing you knew cross stitching at least you have something so occupied your time without falling asleep. I like those craft works too.

Thats awesome what kind of crafting do you do? I mainly do cross stitch and knitting now
Knitting I can just put in a little bag and take with me
if I take cross stitch its always a small kit so I wont lose anything while I am at the office
Thanks for your kind comment!
