My brother just bought a Nokia N85 8G with a low price and when he asked a shop in another place, only he knew he had bought a China imitation product. Exterior of the phone looks the same but many functions were not available. Is there a basic guide to identify imitation from genuine product?

simple basic rule for me before i buy stuffs: check out first in the internet about the product. with this you could identify the genuine. Once you hold an imitation, then there you go and judge it. Usually the software is the big difference between an imitated and genuine phone.

Thanks for the advise. However when keying in *#0000# the software version of the imitation product also shows the same version from the original one... There are really too many imitation products out there today, consumers must be aware and try out all the functions before purchasing. :D

I am like the other user in that I will check the item out first on the internet. I check the features if there are any, and basically the specs to make sure that it is what I really want to purchase. Usually, when it comes to cell phones, I will either go to the providers website and buy the phone from there, or I will go to a kiosk in the mall, as we have them here, and I have purchased phones there. I am not saying that they will always have the genuine phone, but in my case, I have never found it to be any other way, but buying a genuine phone. the phone I have now, I paid a pretty penny for it, so I know it is real, as it has everything on it that the internet showed. I would definitely check anything out first online before buying, so that way you know what you are getting. Take care, and have a very good day.
