Really understand me a few though I have amount of friends(if it can say that ).For decades,my experience is that the rich associate with the rich,poor with poor.However the friendship more reliable among the poor than the rich .You will have many people if you are a millionaire.Your friends are still willing to help you selflessly when it comes to trouble or none of money?

May I just add one more phrase ? And that would be "true friend associate with true friend" ! Will that be alright ? May be it is hard to find a true friend, but once found, then, he/she will associate with you !

I still believe that friends should have similar financial situations. if there is a big gap, then there may be problems. the richer maybe wants to spend more, and then he doesn't feel good for the poor one. and other things like that. Strong feelings are required for such a friendship to resist :)
