How much do I hate where I live?

Well, I can't say I love living in Texas all the time - when the temp was over 100 for nearly 70 days last summer, I was seriously thinking of packing it up...
However, did I hate living here more than I might hate living where they have mini-ice ages every winter?
No, I really don't think so.
Oh, I "mitched and boned" about the heat last summer, but not enough to leave...
So, when I hear of other people complaining about their weather, I have to think "do they REALLY want the alternative?"
We've been up near 100 and even gone over it a few times this summer, but do those people who live where its cooler really want to live with this? Do they really want to have the air conditioning on all the time and know that walking outside is like walking into an oven?
Probably not any more than I want to live where there is snow and ice on the ground for several months of the year...
I put up with Texas summers - and they are LONG summers indeed - for the Texas winters. I can't afford a place in another state to spend the summers, even if I had a job that let me do that...
No, I'll just put up with the endless dog days of summer for those lovely days between our three days of winter - granted, last winter was cold for us, but even then, it wasn't an ice age either....
So, are you one of those who are complaining about the weather where you are? or do you try to remember that no matter where you are, it could be worse?

I used to hate where I lived, when I lived in Winnipeg. There the winters are long and cold at an average of about -30C which I don't know what is in Farenheight, nor do I know how to spell it, lol and the summers are 100F most days and humid as heck so it feels more like 120F. I hated the summers as much as I hated the winters.
Winnipeg is also the mosquito capital of the world and between the heat, the humidity and the mosquitos it was pure torture. I lived there for 45 years of my life. Then my partner at the time, got transferred to Calgary and I love it here. The weather is great. Our winters are an average of about -10C which is around 20F, I can handle that. Plus we get schnooks which are warm winds that blow in over the mountains so we have days in the winter that it could go up to +10C.
In the summer we have some heat, most days around +25 and no humidity. We also have no mosquitos.
My daughter and I went to Vegas a few weeks ago and it was too hot there for me. It average 110F every day and at night it only cooled down to 100F. I could never live there. Too hot for me.

I wrote this last year, and this summer we have broken the record - shattered it actually - of most 100º F days in a row, we are currently in 4th place for most days and only about 10 more days to break the over all record - and its ONLY August 13th...

I haven't been here as much as I used to be, but I am still here, right now I've been really busy, and that's why I'm not here as much. Day 61 of the 100 days, tho we broke the most in a row on Sat when it was cloudy and only got up to 96 or 97... but we went over 103 on Sunday AND actually got a few drops of RAIN! (what's that wet stuff?)

wow, this is the first comment I got in the last 50 or so responses I've made on old discussions. I think most of the people I responded to are no longer active anymore. By the number by your name I should have realized you ere still around. Nice to see a long time member still here.
I got really sick the first day we got to Vegas and tried to walk on the strip. I had to sit several times and had to drink lots of water. I was never so glad when our bus came to take us back to our resort. After that I stayed around the pool during the day and only went out at night and that was hot too but at least there was some wind.

I can honestly say I wouldn't mind how hot your summers are. I live in Pa. and it has been very hot and humid here this summer. The heat doesn't bother me the way it does others. I have AC but I usually don't think it is hot enough to use it, and when I do I have it set at 81 or 82. I always complain about the cold, but never how hot it is. I even sleep better in the heat! I hate the cold weather and snow and we have a lot of that here. I am disabled so the snow inhibits me more than most people. I can't afford to move, and don't want to leave my mother, or I would go somewhere warm.

I have a bad time sleeping when its hot, I spend most nights with the ac on and at most a sheet over me, a lot of times not even that - but I also can't sleep if I'm too cold - and if I do get to sleep, I have a terrible time waking up again!

I can't sleep with the AC on. I get too cold. I figure I am cold in the winter, I don't need to be in the summer also. I wear socks to bed all year long. My feet are always cold! In the winter, when they are REALLY cold, I can't get to sleep until they warm up a little. I have had my circulation checked and everything seems to be okay.

It could be worse.
There's three or four families that bring where I live down, I very much like and enjoy the city it's a wonderful place to live but just those selfish people who act in vulgar ways and generally don't care about what people think. You know the type those who wear tacky clothing, allow their kids to do everything and very anti-social.

You know, hubby and I have wondered where we could live where there's no fire ants, snow and tornadoes or hurricanes. Yeah right. Good luck in finding such a place!! I think it would literally be called paradise if there were such a place. Hubby and I have talked and talked about moving to Arizona because although it's hot, the air isn't humid and much easier to breathe. Not like Texas where if you step out the door, sweat just pours off of you and not here in North Carolina where it snows. I'm wondering if fire ants are in Arizona.... I'll have to check into that but I'm pretty sure they are. If so then further north it'll have to be.

I dunno. I"m north of you in WI and summers are no fun here either. We have only had a few days almost a 100 but the humidity is awful lately... & it feels like an oven when you are in it. Honestly the temp wouldn't be bad if we didn't have the humidity. Winters we do have the ice age usually temps are in the teens to twenties unless we get a big artic blast that brings temps down into the single didgets. That's why I look fwd to the transitional seasons like fall & spring.... they are cooler and comfortable to do stuff outside. And a big bonus of no skeeters!

I'd imagine Texas gets plagued with Snow Birds from up here when our winters hit. But how long does the temps in the 20's last? Here it's not a day its for several months & it sux! That's why when it gets humid out it's so disappointing because we look forward to weather we can be outside comfortably in.

As much as I complain about how hot it is in Florida I know there is no way I would be able to deal with the cold. However I would love to move out of South Tampa, but now sure when and if that will ever happen because my husband has children close by so who knows.
I love the rain and the hurricane season and rarely do I complain about that unless I want to go somewhere and dont feel like taking the kids out through the rain to get to and from. I would not trade the hurricanes for earthquakes or sand storms or anything else...so for now I will stick where I am in Tampa and forever I will stay in Florida :)

yeah, 114 is HOT, I've been in AZ and you can well understand why those smart natives hide out during the hot parts of the day, then it gets chilly at night, with the high humidity here, it seldom gets below 75 even at night - and the humidity just gets worse!
I like windy days, if it isn't too cold, but where as when I was younger, too cold was below freezing, now its below 40!

I am a Wintertexan! I read all the responses and I'm the only person who Lives in Ontario near Toronto Canada in the summer, and moves to my winter home in McAllen Texas for the winter. I love Texas in the winter, and Ont Can in the summer. I have it both ways (love the Grapefruit that grow in my backyard in Texas.)

oh, you are one of our "snow birds"... I hear disdain from some, but I think its great - spend as much money as you like in Texas, we really do appreciate it!
I mean, really, why should you poor people suffer in those arctic climes when Texas in the winter is so nice!

I hate where I live because of the politics. I complain, but some years are summers are getting longer and this year, we need it. It's not the temps here, it's the humidity. At 80 degrees, it often feels like it's 110. But I don't want to go where there are poisonous snakes and killer bees.

Unless we go into caves, there aren't poisonous snakes here. Our snakes are friendly.

I LIVE for the summers to arrive...can't wait for it come around....HATE the cold.
I'd probably do very well living in Texas.
...can't say what it is but, I don't seem to "feel" the heat like so many other people I know.
I've always been that way; ever since I was little.
...don't perspire as much or often either?
...shrug?...
Bring on the heat baby!
...probably why I like saunas too?...

I don't complain about the weather where I live. The weather doesn't bother me that much. I still might move to Texas. My only concern is the insects. What kind of insects do you have there? I hate where I live because there are no jobs and a lot of people are corrupt, especially employers.

well, we have lots of nasty bugs, but actually seeing centipedes, well, I haven't seen one of those in years - of course, the cats may be getting them before I see them...
Roaches are everywhere, and while we have the "normal" roaches, we also have "waterbugs" big roaches, but they don't live inside, they get in and don't survive long - even without the feline help...
Jobs aren't great here either - but maybe better than where you are...

Speaking of mosquitoes, I don't go out much, but yet a mosquito finds its way into my apartment and I scratch like crazy. It's funny how those are the only insects that can land on you and you don't know it until "after" they've bitten you. The insects I hate most are roaches and centipedes. It seems I see a centipede in my apartment or in the building at least every other day!

I live in Pennsylvania, USA, and we have all kinds of weather here. Presently, we are in a heat wave, which brings thunderstorms. Last winter, we got 26 inches of snow in one day. Spring and autumn are usually pretty nice, but can be tricky.
Hubby and I have debated about moving to another state. Farther north is out of the question...too cold and way too much snow. South would be ok, except for the hurricanes. Mid-west might not be too bad, but they get more snow than here, and then there are the tornados. West coast has smog and earthquakes.
I've been to Texas...it was January and the weather was bad...even had an icy rain the day we got there. By the time we left, it was 70 degrees, and when we landed in Pittsburgh, it was 13 degrees. What a shock to the system!!!!!
So, after looking at the choices, I guess we'll stay here. It's not perfect, but at least it's relativly safe.

well I used to hate it very much where I live and it wouldn't be because of the weather then, but because of our country itself being not very rich, not having much inetresting things to do and not having really any kinds of cool events like other countries do every year. But I kind of learned to live with it and complain less now, though now in summer, actually for the past few years I complain about the heat all the time. I live in country where we have 4 seasons every year, and one I despise the most is summer. I'd rather live in a place which only has seasons that are normal, not too cold, not too hot. I know there's no perfect place anywhere, but I could name a few places that definitely are better than where I live now.
So for those living in cold countries saying the'd rather be living in warmer ones, I kind of find it harder to believe as for the people who want the opposite. it's simplybecause I think cold is easier to endure than over the top warmth. I'm not talking about extremely low cold temperatures, but normal cold temperatures, so yeah I could say if I could trade and afford to live in a better, colder place, I'd trade it in a heartbeat with where I live right now and it wouldn't be just due to weather reasons, but to stay on topic I won't start with other ones.

Hmm.. I think I prefer the Arctic Winter and a little cooler summers. I know, the winter darkness is rather depressing, but on the other hand the snow lightens it up and so do the Northern Lights when they are visible.
I describe our winter in Triond in a couple of poems that you may like to check. You find me there with the same username as here.

I can understand that.. We have warm houses here.
And people are used to it. I guess many of us think that we can endure the winter because of the summer..
Anyway, it is good to be flexible, or move the the mountains in Ecuador where there is eternal spring. But they may have earthquakes instead..

Florida has been dreadfully more heat and humidity than usual. But have to say I lived in Texas a year or so with my now husband. When we pulled into San Antonio area I looked at the temp on a sign outside of a Winn Dixie and it said 110.
I looked at him sharply and asked him if he has brought me to H**L!
I also was in San Antonio in October through December of 1970 and remember how cold it was standing in formation at Ft. Sam Houston.
I was born in Missouri and had the seasons all year. with Fibromyalgia I could not take the extreme cold.
Although my heart is in the Smokey Mountains of Tenessee.
Just love it there but not with all the snow LOL

Yeah, you know the Devil comes to Texas to warm up right?
1970 - lets see... Don't really remember that too well, but I do seem to recall that being a very cold winter
The problem with Texas and cold, is there aren't anyone who really knows how to dress for the cold and there's no place to get out of the wind!
