Hello Lotters, If there's one Facility that i know that Filipino Guards are serious protecting at, is in the US embassy, even vehicles are being called away by the Security guards there. I used to think media centers had better security until this guy tries to kidnap the singer's Dad inside the network building. and then few years back when the Glorietta exploded, security there isn't as tough as i remember. Except in important areas, most Security Guards have lapses in checking persons belongings and pockets of the people who enter the place. some security guards doesn't even have a license being one in the profession. I know because my Elder cousin is a Security Guard and he had arms training and re-trainings here and there before he got his license. he's good at it.... then, there was this terrorism in the Zamboanga Airport, that wouldn't happen if the guards where thorough in their check points. What are your views, i hope you can give examples of "good" check points..and bad ones, we see it everyday my elder cousin is a good example. e.g. he's skin turned dark under the sun "duty"

Actually, here in America, nothing could be farther from the truth. Most of the security guards you see around here are paid minimum wage, and they are usually not the type of people who are motivated to do a good job at too much of anything. So, what you get is a lot of people who are not really concerned about doing a good job, because they don't really have anything to lose by not doing a good job. They know that if they lose their minimum wage security job, they can always get another minimum wage job somewhere else... They are also often over-worked, so they are usually not the best people in the world to have trying to do perimeter checks or inspect luggage...

well, at least in the US they have other options. here, they loose their jobs, it will be hard for them to look for another job. most specially if they have criminal or misbehaving method. i agree, but here mostly the job isn't easy, that they are required almost twenty four hours a day

Well there are those that are good at their work and there are those that are not. It all depends on the person. Just like any type of work. But for me it is really important that the guard should do his work properly considering that it involves safety and security of many people. The sad thing is many security guards are not properly trained. Many of them are not even familiar as to what kind of bombs are available and obviously there are those that are checking as if they know but in fact does not really know what to look for.

They are there to serve as deterrent. For bombs, I don't think they will ever undergo such training especially with the meager pay they're getting. Unless they work for high profile companies. But then again why hire a guard when you can get an ex-military to do just that. To check thoroughly the bags would be too much of a hassle and you'll end up with a lot of irate customers. The thing is it is kinda hard to spot a bomb as terrorist put a lot of effort in concealing one. You need a trained specialist for that. And it is expensive to employ one.

Hello JPSO, not only not properly trained but their commitment of protecting the people is doubtful. we have seen guards being threatened by robbers that they have no choice but to be tied up and strip of their weapons. the only real security guard was the person i have watch in the movies but it's a true story about the guard bringing down the crooks.

unfortunately our professional who work in our country not all but majority works under low dedication, but when they go abroad they work with extra passion giving the distinction of providing professional with high work efficiency. Very few security guard I see who follow strict protocols, in the airport (Naia) usually they only check the underparts of your car, what about the inside? In malls the security protocols are lousy. they only stride your back (if your a guy) and then check you bag and your in, they don't bother checking your lower legs, pants and shoes, when you are dress with coat n tie or any formal attire (like a congressman) they will not even check you at all. In schools they only look at your ID but not closely, you can pass even using other's ID.

Hello Grayxenon, They are active and dedicated to places and facilities that handles tourist, vips and others that are important. but for other places, they just do it out of formality, i don't even see other people looking at some bags, what if some of them have a cell phone bomb under-neath.

Based from my experience, specially when riding the Light Rail Transit system, our guards here are incompetent. One of the guard yelled at me when I went straight up to the station without being frisked. He said that "Parang ayaw mong magpafrisk!" (As if you don't want to be frisked). Hell! he does not even know how to frisk properly. He just casually pat my back and that's it! Well, good luck to the commuters.

hello visijay, well, you don't have to disobey and go through them. just allow them to provide inspections, it will be trouble if you don't allow yourself be frisk. i agree and be careful too. it's not safe out there.

Shang Mall has good security checks with bomb sniffing dogs roaming the mall all day. Surprisingly, the LRT Purple train is more stringent in checking bags unlike in MRT where the inspection is merely a token gesture. I am just not sure if they can detect the bombs if they have not been assembled together.

Hello advocate, well, that is some good news. but i bet they are paid well compare to other security agencies who provide security guards. i can't imagine a train exploding again, i believed terrorist can built bombs in their cell phones too. i doubt any one is going to assemble it in the train itself, people will notice it for sure.

i observe that also here in the country..mostly most security guards in the malls are very lenient and sometimes if you open your bag they will just let you enter but they don't really inspect it..but the wharf has a very strict security..when you enter you will put your bag and run in an x-ray..after that you will make a line and put your bags down to make way for a sniffing dogs and the dog will sniff all the bags and do it again especially on a big luggage...

Hello clevengay, yup, lenient. no x-rays, or even dogs for that matter. look at the US embassy, you had to go through three kinds of inspections before you could actually get in. i wish it would be teh same to other malls. with this i believed such terrorism incidents might happen again. except in MRT Taft inspections.

im hoping for changes in our new government..,malls should provide a strict security because of terrorism here in our country..sometimes there are people who can bought their fire arms inside the malls and for me its scary...maybe those security guards must be trained like our policemen because our safety is on their hands..

I'd say i think also in ADB, and in some hotels where you will see dogs sniffing your things.. and oh, im airports too! they are very serious with the inspection there... but in malls, MRT stations, i'd say they are not serious about the inspection, all they do is waste our time falling in line and all they do is stick their woods in our bags while they chat with each other!

Hello chiyosan, it's very rare that i encounter dogs in the train, maybe before when the twofront cars still allows men. but recently, i find their security too lame and too easy to hide your stuff, we can't afford another train bombing that killed thousands of people. well, at leastit's not allowed to eat or drink there.

Hi LK, I don't think not all are really serious in what they are suppose to do. Some are so lax in checking things out and ensuring that protocols in checking were made. I hoep after all these bloody incidents around, our gusard will do their job and ensure strict implementation of the check point protocols.

Hello Ms.francisco, some are just doing it for the job and not for duty in protecting the people. but of course, they have families, why risk their jobs if they die? makes me wonder why they have to take the security guard job. some guards run a mock shoot people like what i hear in some news years back.i know they have protocols but they lack strict inspections, they're not consistent being strict.

The security guards in LRT stations, they are just the perfect example of the bad ones. The guards in duty in LRT stations are inconsistent. There are times they don't even try to stop drunk men riding the LRT. I can't recommend any good ones or I just couldn't think of a good example for now

Hello Hexe, wow, they didn't stop a drunk guy from getting in? what if he throws up there because of so many people you can get a headache.

It a plain no. There are security guards who take their jobs seriously but there are those that do not. One reason is the are too afraid to get the ire of the person when they try to check what's inside that person's belongings. But there are those that don't get intimidated. I won't take it against a guard if he has to go through all my things since i perfectly understand that he's doing it with a purpose and besides i have nothing to hide. I would be more strict and conscious who gets irritated easily because for all we know they could be hiding something. All it takes is a single lapse in security and terrorist can blow anything they want. I always believe that it's better be safe than sorry.
