In giving, you do not have less, but in giving, you gain more...a friend of mine told me that I have this attitude of giving things to the point that nothing will be left for me. He said it's okay to give but not to the extent of losing it myself. However, I believe that it is better to give than to receive...what's your view on this?

Hi bokal, I too say it is better to give than to receive, I stand on the Word of God about giving. Giving is like sowing seeds, if you sow your seeds in good soil you will reap a good harvest and your harvest will be plentiful. If your giving is in line with the Word of God and your motives are right you will reap what you sow. And the Word says you will be rewarded double. The Word of God says if you keep planting consistently, you'll receive consistently. Some people never get to enjoy this kind of blessing because, instead of giving, they keep waiting to receive.
You keep giving and eventually you will enjoy a good harvest every single day.
Be Blessed.

It is important to give as much as God as endowed us. But we must apply our heart and not allow sentiments to affect our judgement. Our show of love must be sincere and intelligent; not sentimental gush. People can actually take advantage of your acute generosity.

Giving and receiving are the two faces of a coin.If one desires to receive love from others,he/she has to give love to others. What ever one gives in the present period, one receives in multiple terms,in future. While giving something of value to others, one should not expect any return or benefit for what he gives. It must be natural and unconditional;then only the power of giving creates a stream of receipts for him/her,in multiple terms. It is the law of nature. One need to give wholeheartedly without getting attached to the expected fruits of his/her action of giving. By giving, one expands one's sphere of resources. Thanks.

It is very true that giving is better than to receive.
But it doesn't mean to give our everything.
Giving help and extending help to the needy and to those who really are worth to be helped for is like saving good things up in heaven above.
For God is righteous enough not to forget our good deeds and HE will always remember our good deeds and He will blessed us from our good deeds too.
If you feel happy with what you are doing, then it's good you can continue with it.
Happy Sunday

I agree that giving is better than receiving. Though, I do agree with your friend in the context that if the thing you are giving away is really important for you and your family it might not really be practical. If you are not suffering in the process then it is okay to keep giving at least in my point of view. :)

Yes you friend is right.
One should be generous but not at the stake of becoming a pauper himself. Being generous not only means giving away stuff. If you give away stuff people will always lean on you for whatever they want from you. Rather you should give them something valuable which could help them forever.
For example there was once a beggar who went to the house of two brothers who were fishermen. One of them gave a fish. But next day the beggar was back and he asked for something more. This time the other brother taught him fishing and since then the beggar began fishing for his livelihood.
Apply that concept while giving away something next time.
Cheers!

I'm not sure what the context of giving is. If you are a Christian, the more you give, in the right spirit, the more God returns. God returns here on earth and of course eternal life.
If you give because it is in your heart, that is fantastic. There are so many people that are takers. This discussion reminds me of CNN Heroes. They are people that give, sometimes random acts of kindness, sometimes due to trauma.
I love to hear about people who give. Do you give so much that you do not have enough to take care of yourself?

well, I guess that is why my friend reminded me that I should not give so much, because sometimes I tend to forget myself...thanks for your thoughts. =)

Hi bokal2703
I am a giver, I always give out things to less fortunate. If I am a hoarder probably my little house won't be able to breath anymore. It is better to share them rather than keep them. Yes like you said the feeling of sharing is something not even a lot of money can compensate. Yes lets give and give...go girl!
