There are many people who listen to conversation and seminars but some can't stand too long conversation or during seminars... How long can you stay listening? Listening is giving a person comfort especially during the times of sorrows and it also help people learn as well during seminars. But then, does listening have a time limit?

For most of my working life, I have been a speaker. But I do listen... In fact this is the reason why I have learned so much since I listen and understand. Now that I am more of a speaker, I still listen, in fact it is for me one of the best characteristic of an instructor or a speaker.. to listen to his audience, students. Although there are times that I joined some seminars or training and find it boring most especially if the speaker does not know how to handle the situation and he handles the participants as if they were grade school students... It would be hard to concentrate and continue to listen. I think listening does have some time limit. Perhaps this is the reason why people come up with some stretching activities during seminars or ice breakers.

Yes, that's right sir jpso... That creates a very good speaker or trainer when one knows how to listen. It's useless to give a talk when we don't even listen. Most of the time, people get bored because of the attention span limit - it's not only important to listen, but to feel the presence of the crowd as well... :)

Hi cj, you do not need to call me sir here. We are of the same level here in mylot. Hehehe. Yes, that is what I wanted to express. You hit the right word... "feel the presence of the crowd". I remember this words when I had my Instructors Development Course. Teaching people is not just about speaking but also making sure that the audience understand. The key is communication and it involves speaking and listening... Best to you always CJ...

I think that I'm a good listener. When I was a student most of the time I followed the lectures and was taking notes. I don't value my time when somebody speek to me about his problems. I don't praise myself, but I really can listen.
But I've noticed recently that more and more people want to speak when they need to do it and stop listening when the other begins to tell his story.

That's good fannitia, we are a good listener. :) Hmmmm that's the problem of other people they forget the cycle of communication. When somebody talks, we have to listen to make a good response as well. If they fail to do it, it's not a good communication at all.
