hi everyone. sorry to say u that we(citizens from my province) are the most unlucky citizens in the world who cant celebrate their independence day. 15 August, i mean today is the independence day of india. The public of entire country is celebrating this day except my province. From my childhood, i have seen that there is no chance to enjoy this day with other citizens in open air, field, street. I don't say that people never celebrate. Some of them celebrate even flags are also hosted in certain places by government representatives with some govt. personals. Its declared as mandatory to students to participate but i am damn sure that no student willingly celebrate it. Why? Reasons are here. There are many terrorist groups in my province.... who have been declaring this day as a banned day for years, even many times they have blasted bombs and killed innocent citizens even kids. So people get fear to come out from home coz anything can be happened by them. Eventually the police security is also so tight that people don't wish to bear it rather they want to stay at home. So i say that we are the most unlucky citizens of an independent country. We wish to celebrate but situation never permits. anyway, how you celebrate your independence day? curious to hear so that i can forget this unluckiness. thanks in advance.

Hi shibham, it is sad to know that terrorists are on the sprawl in your territory. I wonder why the law enforcers of your place could not handle them and banish these traitors to the fire of hell? Why do they become joy killers to a national celebration for all patriotic citizens of the country. It is a shame that these terrorists are a constant threat to national security and will never surrender their distorted beliefs in killing other humans as their goal in life.

It is really very sad to know about this. Actually we are living in a country which is leading by some very greedy, corrupt and fearful peoples who called themeselves politicians. I am sure one day will come when we will throw them into the sea to make our country clean and free of dirty minds. Anyways, Happy Independenc Day to all Common peoples of my Country.

I'm sorry shibham, I know a little about India, but can't remember much about the terrorist attacks. What province are you from? I am going to back this site where I had read about this part of India that is under a lot of oppression.

Hi, Asom or Assam is the name of my province and your said organisation is a banned organistaion and declared as a terrorist group by administration. They need a separate country from india and feel that the central india is depriving asom from all everyting. Hence they dont think that this day is not the independence day for Asom. So they those kind of activities.

I'm so sorry to hear that. You should be free to celebrate your independence without the fear of being hurt. Here, the company I work for shuts down for a week and so we have a very long vacation. There are also places in which there are huge firework displays and music. This past year me and my family went to the local park and watched the fireworks. We also bought food from the food stands. I do hope and pray that you and your province one day get to celebrate in any way that you like.

Hiya shibham, My question is do they celebrate this in England in their own way? I mean the Indian People that live in England do they have a way of celebrating it there seeing as they have the freedom to do so? I have never seen them celebrate it in the Streets for example whilst I lived over there so I wondered maybe they have some kind of celebration in their Houses. Do you have relatives in England? I have heard about your situation from an Indian Friend who used to run a Grocery Shop and he told me about the many conflicts going on there because I asked him why this that and the other. For a long time and too long a time the Spanish People were submitted to this kind of oppression and instead of being able to celebrate anything in the Streets they celebrated in their Homes instead. Now Franco was not able to go to the Homes of every Person was he so that was their way of getting back at him for all the unwanton cruelty and who knows what else. My Indian Friend told me and others celebrate it in your Heart what you want to celebrate even if others don´t like what you think because what comes from you Heart is the most important thing. The message from the Heart will break down barriers and let everyone across the World know how you feel. They might not know it´s you that is sending the message out but they will feel it and recognize it somehow. You have let us know here and that is very important too I can understand your frustration. I just wondered if maybe although they can´t go out in the Streets and dance and sing maybe they do this quietly in their Homes instead? All the Indian People I have ever known do everything quietly and without imposing if they suffer they suffer in silence so it´s just made me think that could be the way they celebrate this Day without letting too many People know of course the reason for such a celebration. Or at least they might recognize this Day between themselves in silence for fear of being heard outside their Houses. Once there was an Indian Lady crying on her knees outside of the Hospital where my Mom was in she was being held up by another Indian Lady and I thought for her to be in this state something very bad must have happened to her. As I have never seen any Indian Person cry like this in Public. I was deeply moved by this scene and it made me realize that I have never seen anyone who was Indian cry or demonstrate these feelings to other People in Public. They keep everything to themselves that is the way I have always known them I used to go to School with many Indian Girls but they would never tell you anything about their Home but they were Friends with you. Have a great Day anyway the best way you can. Oh by the way today is the celebration of the Ascension of Mother Mary to Heaven this is very important date to in the Spanish Calendar and although not too many People celebrate it as such quite a few do in their own way. I respect that I don´t feel the same way as they do altogether but anything that brings happiness and makes People forget for a few Hours is worth everything don´t you think?

hi lovinglsisted, I have some words for it. "independence" as the word carries the sentiments is all acclaimed and all known. What shibham was trying to put in his post as it seemed to me is the political twists that followed after the ASSU (ALL ASSAM STUDENTS'UNINION" had signed the 1985 accord with the central govt.of India. Its been twenty five years since we have not had spontaneously celebrated India's Independence Day for every year there would be protest from this or that circle that India's Freedom was a fluke and there was no validity at all. This sentiment was furthered by a local extremist groups. Not exactly the same fervor every corner of the nation. This part of the nation however is dominated by the local feelings more the "one Nation" response. Once the state govt. would take up the necessity steps to develop this region there would once again the same unity.

its my independence day - its my independence day where anything can be happened.
hi angel... i don't know why the Indians living in england don't celebrate the independence day where as we are interested to celebrate but no chance either. i have no relatives in england. perhaps they have forgotten about their motherland and begin to think england as their motherland. i have no complain to them because i do believe that they are quiet happy there. as krajibg has said that this is an unsolvable problem in my province where more than five extremists groups exists and political power is also dominated by it. if our government cant give us the security.. then how we can come out to cheer up our independence day. government so search all those extremists and take a step so that no one can kill a civilian... but in real they declare this day as day of fear and dont feel to take a step. the police also run to secure the political leaders not the civilians. here is a link for you where u will find what happened in the independence day in 2004 in my province. i think u will be more sensitive... why i have posted this discussion. http://www.rediff.com/news/2004/aug/15assam.htm here is a picture of a child also who were highly injured by the bomb attack of extremists in an independence day. u know this boy went to participate in a parade in that day. i think this is the most horribleness scene that u have ever seen. thanks for your response and hope you are enjoying your day as u have described. take care.

Hiya krajibg, Nice to hear another view from other People like you too I know I am living outside of India and what you hear or see on the News is not the same for the People who have to live this situation every Day of their lives. I live in a part of this Country that still has terrorists on a small scale so we have a lot of Police Controls if you don´t get stopped once a week you are lucky. Here once the local celebrations were stopped for a long long time because like you say the local People could not stand the pressure being put on them. This was of course during the years of the War they had and till Franco had lost his hold on the Country. I don´t know exactly how many years this went on for but even today the resentment is still there even in younger People because there Grand Fathers and Fathers have told them what happened too. So like my Indian Friend Ron told me is what you are telling me now. He stills goes back to India because he loves it. Very nice person Ron very honest I miss talking to him and his Wife. Have a great Day also.
