Any Idea Why it's called Internet SURFING?

Surfing is actually a connection to something beyond like what we do with a surfboard, its a physical connection of the body to an instruments that connects to a vast mysterious world... When we do the internet, we vitally connect to a vast mysterious world... So, why don't we call it Internet Browsing? Internet query? Internet search or internet exploring? Why does it have to be SURF? Any comment on this?
