We had a very nice vacation this year but the end was kind of disastorous as my transmission fell out of my car when we were on our way home. This caused a whole lot of problems for us but I won't get in to all the details and all of the expense that this cost us. So have you ever had a vacation nightmare, lost luggage or anything like that?

Once when we were in Seattle, Washington (USA) our heating core went out on our car on a Sunday. It rains a lot in Seattle and at first we thought it was the fog that comes with the rain. We suddenly realized that the fog was on the inside of the car and not on the outside. We thought the car was on fire and pulled off the expressway and jumped out of the car. It was a costly bill to be added to the three speeding tickets we received while driving out to the state of Washington. We changed our tires before we left and the garage could not find a tire to match the size of our car since it was a newer car. They gave us a different size tire which threw off the speedometer. This was when all the highway speeds had been lowered to 55 mph. Our first ticket was for over 90 mph and our speedometer did not even go up that high. We laugh about it now but it sure wasn't funny back then. You might say we came home with a memorable story as our souvenir. I hope your next vacation is trouble-free as many of ours have been since then.

That must have been very frustrating. I am glad you can laugh about it now.

That's the best attitude to have. I do believe some of the worse things that happen to us make the funniest stories.

I have learned that experiences like these are what have made my life richer. Just think if this did not happen and all went well in my life always, I would not be here with a story. I do look back on it with a smile because we made it through and are none the worse for wear.

It's not a vacation for my family without some sort of disaster. ;) When we borrowed our grandfather's camper for the first time we didn't even get out of the city before the tire blew. We also ended up breaking the key off in the lock of the camper that trip. We watched the plane we were going to fly to Spain take off once... We were going to do a military hop over, though, and thankfully none of our luggage was on it. All of our other trips have small things that go wrong. We just laugh it off, really.

I guess that is all we can really do about these things is laugh. Of course I will probably laugh more about our disaster after we pay off all the bills from it.

I've had quite a few vacation disaster but I think it is nothing compared to yours. I can recall, we went to a hilly place. As we were walking, I fell on the hill but I only had a few bruises. Also one time, when I travelled to Australia, I was eating a lot in the plane. I don't usually eat much during travel because I always get airsick. And because I did something which was non-routinary (in my case), I ended up puking about 3 times in the lavatory. I got so weak when the plane landed. But I have finally learned so during long plane travel, I just sleep. Vacation disasters always teach us a lot of things.

Yes i have had a few. Once my luggage was lost by a airline company. Needless to say it was an terrible start to our vacation. I was forced to buy three new sets of clothes which were way over priced. Another time we were coming back from a great vacation. When we started talking in the car we started a huge argument. One side of the family took one side and the other the other side, if that makes sense. The car ride went from being great to sad because the rest of the car ride was in silence. this event seemed to overshadow the rest of the great vacation we had had.

I haven't had any disastrous travel experiences but i have had problems where i've grown tired or fustrated with, the people I took the trip with. Its hard to spend stretches of time with people other than your family, cause you find out there bad habits/annoying habits. but great topic, i'm excited to read everyones response!

That must have been scary never knowing if you might run out of gas.

my vacation disaster is only that we never get to take one :( the last actual vacation I had was to Council Bluffs, Iowa about 11 years ago. The disaster on that trip was Jasmine choking in the back of the van and then throwing up all over the place. That, and by the time we got there I had a raging headache. I had been saving my change in hopes for a real type of vacation this next time around, but now I have to use it for car parts. Marsha

the least memorable holiday for me was when I went to the village of my grandparents. Along the way, my vehicle was trapped mud and had to walk five miles to seek help. My initial plan to have fun turned into mess when i arrived at the grandparents house, they've gone to my home
