during the extremes of last winter about one in five discussions in this section were on the lines of 'crikey i am freezing, therefore global warming must be a hoax' was never sure why unusual weather was taken as a sign climate change couldn't possibly be happening, but never mind. anyway why have they now all disappeared?

Many of us get distracted by other news. Global warming is not a hoax. Look at the underwear of women, they started from a really wide coverage, and now strings can be considered as underwear.

Maybe because it is a silly argument. The climate has ALWAYS changed so to say it is man made and that paying more taxes will fix it is ridiculous. I wonder how much in taxes the dinosaurs paid and still froze?

of course the climate has always changed. it is the speed at which it is changing now which is the problem. and no it is not a massive conspiracy designed to make americans pay more for fuel, although i won't argue that politicians of all different kinds have hijacked the issue.

The discussions melted with the snow. Not only did we have the "colder than usual no global warming argument" we also had the "colder than normal proves global warming argument" Now we are all worried about money. It is a hot summer here, but not the hottest I ever remember. Last winter was cold, and long, but not the worst I remember either. I like Hatley's idea that the discussers are all stuck in traffic.

Maybe they are all riding on another bandwagon. Another of the evergreen topics is "The world is coming to an end" one, because somewhere in the world, some disaster has taken place and the doom and gloom cranks right away crawl out of the woodwork loudly procaiming that the end of the world is nigh! repent! repent!

Maybe its because at least some sentient folks have figured out that the Al Gore ponzi scheme and corrupt "science" and scientists have indeed perpetrated a hoax, fraud, scheme, blah, blah, blah. My granddaughter and I learned that there is no global warming in 3rd grade Science last year.

Truth will out, my dear. We learned that in Prehistoric times it was warmer and we are actually cooling off.

I hang out in my apartment and live on the Internet. Since I hardly ever go out, I hardly notice anything unusual in the weather. Lately, whenever I go out, it's very hot which isn't unusual since it's summer. The only non news item I have on global warming is that over the past twenty years I noticed that March and April were unusually cold and that it sometimes snowed. When I was younger, March was just windy, kite weather. I might see a kite every now and then, but that's something that seems like an ancient activity.

LOL I'd need a a miles long phone jack cord since I have landline, and I'd have to find a cart for my PC (bag man with a computer in his shopping cart.) One of these days (when my economic condition improves) I'll get into the twenty-first century and buy a cell phone.

Thank you Nyholly. I just checked it out. It's not available in my area. I have found one service but it goes through Lifeline and I already use Lifeline for my landline service. I'm working on changing that.

Well they ended with that winter. Largely they were in response to the more frequent discussions of "It's HOT this summer! That means global warming is REAL!". Oddly enough I haven't seen those discussions this summer, but they were quite common last year which is what prompted the winter discussions. Basically though, the intentional distortion of data by supposed "scientists" to promote an agenda is what brought the opponents of the man-caused global warming crap to the forefront.
Simply put, every summer feels hotter than the last and every winter feels colder than the last for some people. Since very few of us have 100% accurate temperature detection built in and a good enough memory to remember daily temperatures this "human data" is pretty meaningless.

Actually we are. All the heat waves seem to be east of the Rocky mountains.

Dawnald, I would gladly send you some hot weather. In fact, it may be on its way. We actually have a decent week ahead of us. Not too much over ninety. Even some days in the eighties.

At the moment, lack of jobs, elections, oil in the Gulf, a Mosque being built too close to Ground Zero, and illegal immigrants are more important.

I can't speak for outside the USA, but here these issues are more important than global warming. After the elections are over in November, maybe the environment will again become an issue.

We humans have a very short memory and we keep in mind only those things that interest us. During the last year, the media made a mess of this topic called the "Global Warming" and it kept flashing in the newspapers and television and many other media places.
Over the period, the media shifted its attention to other things and as this was something that we did not want to remember, we seem to have forgotton everything about the climate change.

To be perfectly honest I am not sure. I think it may have to do partly to the international talks of reducing carbon emissions, but maybe not. It may have also to do with the fact that many car companies in particular are coming up with temporary solutions to the problem and are recieveing more attention due to their attempts at soleving the problem, when in reality they do very little for the time being. It can also be because there are many other more immenient threats going on in the world at this time, such as the middle east, Iran's nuclear program is finally taking shape with Russia help, and North Korea/South Korea conflict firing up again.

I was just saying this to my husband earlier today. We were melting in 106 degree heat, and I turned to him and pointed out how all anyone ever talked about in winter was how the unusual snows proved global warming was a hoax, but they all shut up after the thermometer started reading 100+.
Then he responded to me by saying global warming still wasn't happening...just because.

hi jb maybe they all got too hot from climate changes and moved
to alaska or again maybe the climate got too cold and oh that
is it, they have come here to overcrowded, expensive to live in,
jobless Southern California. Or maybe the discussers are all
caught in the weekend traffic on th 405 freeway going to Newport
beach and environs.I am sure that's it as its finally hot again here
and its cooler on the beach.they all got tired of makingdiscussions and decided to go have some of New Port beaches famous cholate covered frozen bananas. they are really much better than they sound. but then I love both
chocolate and bananas too.

Crikey, the tropical systems are taking a predictable path this season...so far...therefore global warming must be a hoax.
You make a very good point though, jb. Folks in my home state up north suffered through a terrible heat wave where it was actually hotter up there than it was down here so it is curious that no one has mentioned global warming lately.

Unfortunatelly we usually forget about climate changes because we get distracted with all the daily problems. This really has to change because climate is getting worst everyday and the most of us don't do nothing about it.
