Politics at the workplace.

One of the most complex things to understand at the workplace is politics. Whether you are in a private corporation or government agency, politics form within stink like a rotten garbage. In almost all companies, private or public, your credentials and qualifications most of the time come second to your popularity. It is he who is more popular gets the promotion, enjoys special assignments, being prioritized in most of official travels and other fringe benefits. In this kind of workplace tradition, may i suggest that prior to finishing your post graduate school or any master's degree, familiarize your self with the echelons of the company. Let them recognize you by all means. Bump the Executive Vice President on the corridor and say "Sorry Sir, I'm Mr. So and So of the Accounting Department, may i help with your things sir?" and while you walk him to his office you might get a chance to invite him for dinner, yes or no, still you marked yourself. Or maybe you can intentionally deliver food to the wrong office and it happened to be the office of the Chief Executive Officer and say "Oops, sorry Mam, but anyway, I think you'll also love this Chilli Tuna Fettuccine, by the way I'm Ms. Bla-Bla of the Public Relations Office, have a nice day ma'am. Of course, they are not stupid not to get your message between the lines. Somehow they're gonna sense your orchestrated moves. But then again STILL....negative or positive publicity is still a publicity. Sarcastic? Of course I am. Who among you out there was, somewhere in the history of your career, outmaneuvered by someone three steps your junior in function and designation and five years younger in service but she knows how to cook classic French Ratatouille?

I don't recall any situation quite as colorful as yours! But I have had instances where politics just bit me in the butt! I hate politics. It's everywhere though even though it's called by other names. Like: order, structure, rank...I hate it all!

Exactly. They make it appear like it's the right thing.
