Pepsi despite all that have been written about the health downside of these drinks?
Nearly everyone has read about or heard of the downside which includes Obesity, Tooth Decay and Caffeine dependence. But truly, soft drinks are so easily available anywhere and everywhere and affordable. It pervades the fabric of many young person's lives besides, it looks cool and hip too. Just look at all the appealing advertisements for these drinks.
Certainly the drink is also much craved for on a very hot day or after a hard hitting game of squash or tennis.
Personally, I have to admit that I am a Some Time sucker as I crave for the drink most when I am yearning for a cold drink. The picture of Coke or Pepsi in all its sinful glory will float before my very eyes.
What about you? Are a Regular or Some Time Sucker?

I drink these soft drinks only occasionally. Last week we were having pizza, and I chose coke to go with it, other drinks seems unsuitable somehow.
Normally I'm quite health conscious and will try not to take it too often.

You know, you have a point there! Now, I felt like I have been conned....
But it is nice to have it once in a while, gives one a high feeling

Tempting as they might be, but I have not touched them for years now.. It's due to habit down the road whereby I started substituting soft drinks with ice cold water instead or green tea.. Initially, it's quite hard to swallow because none of the two subs are fizzy like coke/pepsi..
Therefore once I got used to it, I stop drinking them.. In the past, I used to drink lots of fizzy drinks everytime I'm out.. Be it playin soccer or eating in coffee shops etc, soft drinks is a must.. While now, unless I have no choice, I won't be tempted to drink it at all.

i think i'm really quite a convert coz i drink lots more cold water than hot, and regular carbonated drink for that kick.
But in recent years, I have been mindful of taking more warm water and regular tea. Carbonated drink is truly irregular.

carpediem I drink very little sodas even diet sodas as I seldom get out of Gold crest except for shopping trips in the van and my money ie too precious to me to spend on sodas when I have other things I need more.
'I am diabetic so it would have to be s ugar free anyway. So I am a some time user b ut not sucker as I know plain water or fruit juice is re ally better for me and thats what I mostly drink. So the very rare soda is not going to hurt me at all. one must have a goody occasionlly or go nuts, and who wants to go nuts.

hi Hatley, I like your sense of humour. And I think you have your head squarely on your shoulders. Fruit juice is good for its inherent goodness (but the natural sweetness is a red flag). And plain water is way way better. Cheers.

I don't drink Coke or Pepsi unless I absolutely have to. I don't particularly like the taste or the way they make me feel after I drink them. I don't think Coke or Pepsi looks 'cool and hip' and it is not a good thing to drink after playing any game, considering they will only make you more dehydrated than you were before! If you are going to need a drink for after you play a sport, water or just drink carbonated flavored water(much healthier and tastes the same as sprite) instead. :]

I crave these drinks sometimes but I've learned how to kick my addiction. Picturing tooth decay is enough for me to quit drinking Coke/Pepsi. Now I prefer to drink Vitamin Water, or even juice. My favorite is Crystal Light, I'd much rather drink that than Coke. Plus If I wanted to I could make my Crystal Light into a soft drink. haha.

ok for3verfamous - picture a set of false teeth and you get the drift.
Do try to pre-empt a problem and I think you have to a certain extent. For Crystal Light, please make sure it does not contain aspartame which is another silent killer. Any drinks which say sugar-free is a warning in itself cos they may put a replacement which is just as bad if not worse.

I'm curious with what they put on those drinks that make it so addictive. Before I used to indulge on those drinks. Then I stopped and forced water into my system instead. Just the thought of it makes me crave.

from the nutritional facts I've saw, a lot more sugar than sodium and some amount of carbohydrates. But the calories are so much higher for a drink.

I have to admit that there are times that I really give in. Most especially when I am eating a very tasty meal. I always compliment the meal with a coke. Well, there are times that I do control and drink just water instead.

hi jpso - yup, we do some times give in and take something not so healthy every now and then. But the irony is, we often say "every onece in a while" on a very regular basis that it becomes really quite frequent.

I was a regular drinker for coke. Once I was drinking 6 cans a day. Then I lessen it to 3 cans and later 2 cans and now 1 can.
Because I was obese at the time I have bloated stomach and hard to breathe. Now I am drinking coke once in 3 days. Because lately I am diagnosed with endometriosis which causes pain when period comes.
I hope to cut off coke by the beginning of next year and I can't recover from depression which I had more than 10 years and imsomnia.
Drinking coke is bad for health. Hope informed!

hi choiyee, wow, 3-6 cans per day is way too much. Wish you much success in reducing the drink intake for coke and recovering from depression too! Life is not so bad - one step at a time.

I used to drink more sodas than I did water and that caused my stomach ulcers now. I couldn't drink anything with cola, and caffeine. Even decaffeinated is not allowed.
Anything acidic, like pineapple juice is also a no-no. Dairy products are prohibited too.
Now they're also saying that purified water we drink is acidic!
So what am I supposed to drink now?????

hi Theresaaiza - thanks for your sharing. Oh dear, I can only think of fruit juices like apple or mango.
I think you really need warm water (maybe mixed with Manuka Honey).

Yes, I drink Diet Coke regularly. I know it is not really good for me, but I love it so much, I simply can't seem to help myself!

I occasionally drink carbonated drinks especially coke and pepsi because it gives me an upset tummy if I have it on a regular basis.. Being a youth I don't enjoy drinking carbonated drinks especially on a hot day because it makes me crave for more water. But I do admit that I'm a some time sucker for these drinks especially I'm really thirsty and water is not available..

hi lady_di - i think the occasional drink is still ok. I understand how satisfying drinking these carbonated drinks can be when one is craving to replenish liquid after a workout etc.

not a fan of soda at all! it always gives me a sore throat and since the taste wasn't worth the clogging and stripping of my throat i gave it about 4 years now. I drink water and plenty of it my skin glows and looks radiant and supple EVEN in the winter. i feel healthier and water is so refreshing.

Yes before!!I am really coke sucker, from noontime, then in the afternoon.Especially when the drink is in near freezing condition,I love to suck it with my favorite food
but in the process,I am already giving bad signs to my system, that later on I am going to suffer some clog nose.I keep in going through these cravings and suffering
when I was still knowing my body reactions because I was still young, yet now I already know the bad effects of consuming these drinks, because it does gives us many sickness like: sinusitis, diabetes, clog nose due to colds, swelling of the nostrils,
obesity, cholesterol, hypertension,it can make an ulcer patient suffer more pain.I could not recommend to anyone to drink these beverages, because they would also suffer what I have suffered before. It can also make more painful to the people with arthritis and gout sufferers.People with insomnia would become worse when drinking these beverages.Take good care of your body and health.

I think when one is younger, anything goes. I remember I used to have a swiss boss who seems to drink coke instead of water and smoke big time. I am not sure of the status of his health though I did think that he the swiss or the europeans' constituent must be quite different to be able to absorb all these sweet stuff daily!
Certainly we must be mindful of the long-term effects of all these feel good drinks.

There are times when I crave for a cold soda. It depends on what meal I'm having at that time. I have to say I'm an avid drinker of the bubbly beverage I would say I have one each week. I'm trying to cut back from drinking too much due to the health risks you've mentioned.

hi hera, when I was younger, I feel that anything goes. But now that I am older, I am wiser in that indeed the long term effects will come to bear on you - one day. I guess I am being a bit more proactive in this respect these days.

thanks reetu for sharing. I think the key word is moderation and to guide the kids accordingly. Similarly, kids love McDonalds and some other junk food. But really, we can't just accede to having McDonalds every other day.

hi Arak - I am glad that you know that you are a regular sucker and making efforts to reduce the intake. For your own sake, do acknowledge the ill effects and try to find a substitute (a more healthy drink) for your regular drink. Maybe reward yourself with Coke/Pepsi as and when (but not too regularly).
