Its hurting because of the pressure when the plane is taking on/off. I don't think its a serious problem unless the hurting persists even you're no longer on plane. The only solution i know when you're experience this is to yawn. This thing not only happened when your on plane but also when your traveling by land (bus, van or car) especially when your going down or up to a hill wherein there's heavy pressure.

I got terrible ear pain when I went on planes from the age of 14 years until I was 24 years old. I was given a pair of ear planes, plastic screw like things, to put into my ears. Amazingly they took all the ear pain away. Now I get a pair when I am about to pack for my next flight. They last for two flights. Some people do exercises to get get rid of ear pain when they are on plane. They holding your nose and then blowing with your mouth shut and then you might find your ears pop. The ear pain is because the ears have difficulty when the plane is trying to land. Good luck with no ear pain on future flights.

When I first travelled by aeroplane, I was so happy that I could feel an excitement of travelling differences between by air and by bus on the road. It was an amazing I could see all the beautiful nature of places, beauties of clouds where we go up in the air. I am not afraid of travelling by aeroplane but happiness I could make with my friends. My ears got hurt but I could remove by closing my nose and push up breathing to let the air goes out.

Well I haven't been on an airplane recently, but as I remember my ears don't hurt, but I can't hear very well. I think this is caused by the pressure. As high as you go, the lower the pressure gets and your ears begin to hurt. You could avoid that by swallowing... Whatever you can.

Hi kim! I guess it is the effect of altitude and pressure. As the plane goes airborne our bodies are also affected by the increase in altitude and pressure. we usually feel the "tension" in our ears. Some even suffer headaches due to this. To prevent such discomfort I usually "pop" my ears (just like what you do when you go deep-sea diving). I suggest you also do the same. Or if not, you can chew some bubble gum. You will feel relief when you do so. If you don't have any gum, just simply move your jaw... just open and close your mouth. I hope this "tricks" can help you. Good luck and may your next flight be a comfortable one. Good day and happy myLotting! :D

I've travelled quite a number of times in an airplane but my ears don't get hurt. But I know, hearing is not easy. I always felt that there is something in my ear. So, what I usually do is either i chew a gum while travelling or sometimes I just swallow. I can recall on my first flight, a co-passenger told me to hold my nose and blow it and it seemed like the air pushed something in my ear and brought back my hearing. You might want to try it. ;-)

That's due to changes in air pressure specially during take offs and landings. Avoid flying when you have colds. When you have colds, some ear membrane are swollen and it can block the called Eustachian tube, unequal pressure may stretch the eardrum and it creates great amount of pain, in severe cases the eardrum can even burst. Healthy individuals can easily adjust to changes in air pressure. Sometimes, they are just adviced to chew a gum because as you chew you also tend to swallow allowing the muscles in your Eustachian tube to contract and open equalizing the pressure. There are other methods to clear clogged ear during flights, there are even gadgets to help you cope with it. You can always ask your friendly stewardess on board. happy trip!
