What about gods? is the title of the latest book I've read and written a book review for, posted in various places online. The book is written by author Chris Brockman and is a children's non-fiction book. This book was basically written for parents to read with their children for discussion on the topic of gods from a non-theist perspective. Personally, I enJOYed the book and if I were homeschooling my child I would definitely add this publication to my curriculum for religious study. Yes, I am a Christian, but I do have tolerance and respect for the views of others, and do understand the need of diversified thought and education. What are your thoughts on god(s) from the perspective of teaching children about various beliefs and non-belief of gods? Would you offer this book, What about gods?, to your children, regardless of your personal beliefs?

One of the worst things parents do is indoctrinating their children. So I totally agree with your point of view and this coming from a Christian is quite astonishing. Children believe anything you say to them, so teaching them the different views of this world and letting them analyze for themselves is a very helpful step in their education, self improvement and critical thinking.

While I have no issue with a parent's desire for their child to be reared by their own beliefs, I do have issue with doing our children a disservice by teaching them only our own point of view. As you state, by doing so we surely don't teach them to think for themselves and that will harm them in so many ways. As the author of the book says... Keep on thinking! As for being a Christian ... even that label, which I feel should denote love, is so controversial, so I generally qualify my Christian statement with "whatever that means to me." And, by the way, I also worship the sun... and not by sun bathing, ha!

Maybe I should worship it too, I think he's quite angry nowadays! Oh wait, it's summer, that's normal...

Hahaha! We want Sun to hang around, especially to warm us through the winter doldrums.

I studied Greek Mythlogy as a child in school and Norse Mythology. I don't see a problem with it. I don't have children and now at 52 yrs old, not likely to.

I don't see a problem with studying mythology, either, nor with studying all beliefs. My son is thirty-eight, so I doubt I'll be having any more children and still not sure about grandchildren.
