Bathing before or after meals?

Bathe me, bathe me!! - Waiting for you in the cup....

After a meal, our blood would flow to the stomach to aid in digestion, so if we take a bath then, the digestion process would slow down, which is not good for our system. So, I have always taken a bath either in the morning before breakfast or just before I go to sleep, hours after dinner. Sometimes when time doesn't permit it, and I have to take it after meals, I felt like my food is not digested so fast. However I have also heard another saying that we shouldn't bathe on an empty stomach but I do not know the reason why. Maybe we might faint in the bathroom or something? Have you any experience in this and do you bathe before or after meals?

hi shi... So you bathe so many times because you sweat easily? Before noon is preferable for me. Thanks for your sharing..

Interesting post! There's always something to learn, to ponder upon, to think about. And I like it here. Apart from the fact that the blood rushes to the stomach to aid digestion I've not really focused on the other aspects. Love to hear and learn more. And Thanks bluemoon!

Sometimes I'm surprised to hear something different about what I have known or believed all my life. There are so many opinions from different people. I'm simply amazed by the amount of information I get here everyday. Thanks, I'm happy to know when I have provided some useful information or food for thought.

Hi, bluemoonpavilion. I don't bathe before and after meals. I have bathed when I had a full stomach and it did not feel so right. My stomach was heavy and I felt bloated to the max. I don't bathe on an empty stomach. I will feel very weak while I am washing up.

Hi cream, I guess there is some truth to this saying after all. Maybe those who have very good digestive systems or a good body constitution would not feel the difference. For me, it's better to be safe than sorry so I tend to follow the advice. Thanks and have a nice day!

My bathing isn't really planned around meals at all. I take my shower either first thing in the morning, or right before bed as a way to wake up or relax, respectively. I've never heard either of those things regarding bathing and meals, so I can't be of much help there....

Taking a bath is a good way to wake oneself up or for a relaxing time before sleep, I suppose it's up to the individual's choice when to take it.

I am usually taking a bath in the morning before breakfast and I don't think that bathing on an empty stomach is any problem.

haha, this is so funny...you mean bathing helps you to digest your food faster? I have not encountered this. It is actually the other way round for me.

Hey frien it's a nice question but i can answer it as i am working in shifts i can bath daily at different times few times at morning 11 and few times morning 5 and few times i will bath at evening 4 but yesterday i bathe at night 9. Before in engineering at the time of exams we used to bath for every 2 days, my parents used to scold me like anything but same as usual is going in my life time.

Hi sunny, Maybe its ok to bathe anytime of the day, not after midnight though. I was more concerned about the digestion of food with bathing immediately after meals. Your schedule sounds quite hectic so maybe you can only find time in between to bathe.

I usually shower instead of bathing, usually before breakfast, first thing or the last thing before bed. I've never heard of the digestion process being slower by bathing after eating. I'll have to learn more about this, sounds pretty interesting, though!!

There are a lot of different practices in the world, we can't possible know all of them, so it's good to learn from other people. However, one man's meat may be another's poison, so explore the logic and reasoning behind first before trying anything new.

I've been bathing after eating breakfast for the past few weeks. I like to get up in the morning and play basketball for a couple of hours before doing anything else. It's become somewhat of an involuntary routine for me. I have noticed that my food intake has decreased as of late. I figured it was because of the regular exercise that I'm getting, but even after going out and working up a sweat, I don't seem to be that hungry later in the day

It seems to be funny that you eat less when you exercise more, should have been the opposite... However, I think it could be that your body is healthier and are digeting the food more effectively, so your food intake is actually sufficient for what you need.

I take a bath anytime, i am not worried about the not eating or eating before. It is just a bath. It is not like we are in the ocean. If something does happen we are more likely to get help faster at home than at a swim sight.

When I am late for a meeting or office, I usually take a bath first. I can take my meal somewhere else.

I am exactly the opposite, I have to eat breakfast before I go out, or I'll faint on the road.

i take a bath before i have my meals.the reason?you had mentioned it above and it is true.plus we are suggested to do so - eat after we take a bath not the other way round for our digestion goods and to maintain slim.

Wow, you mentioned a good reason. Taking baths after meals ---- leads to slower digestion --- leads to fat building up ---- leads to difficulty in slimming down.

A very good question which I have though of it before. I ever heard that we should not bathe when on a full stomach. Although I don't really know the reason. However, I realise that whenever I bathe straight after a meal, my stomach would expand significantly. This is the reason why I try not to bathe straight after meal. Have anyone of you experience this before?

It is good you have made the observation, now you just need to come up with a conclusion, but actually....you don't even have to do that, I have done it here already Well jokes aside, I would try to listen to these health tips and the reasoning behind, then try to follow if possible.

I usually take bath after meals. It does not make any difference if you bathe before or after your meals. You should do it the way you like. The main thing i it relaxes you...

Yes, it's really relaxing so I usually have it before I sleep.

It is true that it is not good to have the bath when you have an empty stomach. Most of the time I have the bath after meal because I have free time after that. I don't like having the shower in the morning because I prefer to sleep for a longer time. I love China

Why is it not good to have bath on empty stomach? Any theory for it? I guess your bed is more enticing than the shower, lol.

Hi, FOr me, I take my bath before my meals time, most of the time. However, sometimes, I do take my bath after my meal time. However, after finish eating, don't straightly go for shower, it is not good for our digestion.I am not sure how true it is. I got this message from my mother, because when I was a kid, I used to shower after my meals. But now, I never did it again. I always have rest at least for hald an hour, then only I will go for my bath after my meal.

Hi shia, I usually try to do that too, have baths before meals. I think there is some truth in it not to bathe when our stomach is very full. One question is, normally our food takes about 4 hours to fully digest, I would think maybe half an hour's break is not so sufficient.

when me and my siblings were younger, we are not allowed to take a bath after eating, we don't exactly know why, but these days, it doesn't really matter what time a will take my bath.
• Singapore

It is related to the digestion problem. Another thing to note is we should not lie down immediately after eating, it is also no good.

I usually take bath before having my food and the reason is exactly what you have mentioned. It makes me lazy, very lazy and i feel like i can't carry my self so i have to take a good nap and so i have my bath before food or after 2-3hrs after food :)

Hi billy, A bath, especially a hot one, will make our blood circulate faster, so our bodies feel recharged, and after that, when the blood circulation slows down, we feel very relaxed, that's when the sense of laziness sets in.

Usually, I don't have a detailed plan about bathing before or after meals. You see, I am busy updating my several blogs, running online marketing campaigns, etc and make money online. So, I don't have enough time to make a plan including the bathing time. In fact, every time when I have spare time, or I think it is time to have a bath, then I will take a bath later. If I have chances to make a choice, I may choose to take baths after meals because I have a habit of continuing my work after meals.
• Singapore
17 Aug 10
Wow, you are a busy person indeed. Do you always find yourself losing track of time because you do not have fixed schedule? If you take a bath and work, and then forgets about the time, I guess by the time you remembered, your food would already have been digested...

There are alot of myths surrounding this topic of whether to shower before or after meals. Actually, it's ok to do it either way so long we are comfortable with it.. It's a habit of many people choosing to shower before their meal so that they are able to eat better, comfortably, with home clothings rather than eating home with office attire? Somehow or other, the stress is on us when we have not change out of the 'uniform'.

I have not thought of it this way. I think this is a very sound reasoning. Thanks for sharing your views.
