Do you remember where you were when you heard Elvis had died. I remember. I was a little girl around 13 sitting in my grandmother's house in front of the television. A bulletin came across the t.v. with the shocking news he had passed. I could not move. I was stunned. It was around 3p.m. The radio stations were playing his music. Playing tribute to a man who rosed from rags to riches. He enriched us with his music, with his movies, and his performances. He enriched our hearts. He was a beautiful man. However, even at a young age, I knew I had to keep things in perspective. Elvis was a man. Like all humans, a person with flaws. Yet, he was an unique kind of a man. I never met him. I could only admire him from a distance.
Each year, I take the time to remember him just as I would remember any love ones. I remember his music--he could sing anything. I remember his movies-they were entertaining. I remember his performances-only by t.v. and he commanded the stage.
These are the things I shall continue to remember about him and not his flaws.
I was a child who once saw the world back then as confusing. Elvis helped my world to become a little clearer and a little brighter. For that, I can only give back to this man the two things I have for him-my love and my respect. Mr. Presley, rest in peace.
Fans, please share your memories.
