For me it was the Iniesta goal in the final. I live in the Philippines and i was watching the game since 2:30 a.m.. It was an ugly match to say the least so it was no small satisfaction when Iniesta finally made that goal at 116'. But I was rooting for Spain beforehand. So still was an ok experience. The English loss was a curious one, by the way.

i agree the final was a dirty match but is dislike Iniesta after he scored against chelsea in the last minute in the semi final in the champions league. but the world cup was good the way england had a great excuse for not winning the world cup.

Hehehe. I think you have a pretty good point. If that goal had been counted, it would have been 2-2. England would not have been desperate to score and instead methodically worked around the ball. Too bad. I'd hate to see a super talented team like England lose in that manner.

It was really interesting watching the final match as the Dutch were really plauing unfair pushing the Spaniards around. They were doing a lot of sneaky foul tactics and as soon as they got some of their own medicine they were howling really loudly. It was a very good game, a very close one. Without all the foul cheating and sneaky moves, both teams were the winner really...

I agree with you. The match indeed was a close one. The Spaniards simply won by having more possessions and more chances to score. Of course, if you put up like a dozen goal attempts, chances are you're gonna open up one. But I disagree with you naming both teams as the winner. The Dutch abandoned their "Total Football" philosophy, which if they had not invented it (thanks Johan Cryuff) we would not be enjoying free flowing football which we are enjoying today and instead be stuck with the "catenaccio" system of play which is downright boring. They resorted to dirty tactics (including a "flying kick to the chest" by de Jong). I feel they were more talented than that, their talent level is actually at par with Spain and if they employed total football, who knows? Its a shame really for the Dutch. No wonder Cryuff favored Spain over his country.
