what passion cause you to learn english well?

Hi,
nowadays I got confused with my poor english,especially for my oral english.sometimes I communicate with the foreigner,they can know what I said to them,but I only understand 50% what they said to me.so I must say,"sorry,I cann;t follow you,please repeat what you said just now,thanks."
Do you have some good way to learn english well,especially for listening?
as we all know,learn anything need more passion,if you do something without passion,you will be failed indeed.So we must find passion to push us to learn english all the time.

I didnt have a choice when I studied English before cause it was a rule at school that we need to study and that we should always speak in English. if I can speak English then my classmates are going to laugh at me. I think that was my motivation why I needed to learn English well cause I dont wanna be laughed at.
