Im 39 years old and have been working in a government agency for 12 years. I am planning to retire early, maybe at age 45 because i want to really enjoy the things i worked for while i am still young and still strong. Would you do the same?

The only early retirees I know did so to get another job and be double dippers upon their true retirement. There are some I know that have so much planned out that they will be doing once retired (like us) they couldn't wait to start. Both their finances and interests led them to a very intellectual life styles.

There are a lot of people wants to retire early just like you for many reasons. But whatever reasons they have of course they have to make sure that they are financially ready because you don't have any monthly salary to receive, though you have monthly pension . Some indulged themselves in business, in this way they don't have to wake up early, no boss plus there is a lot of time to enjoy compared when you are still an employee. Try to assess things out first before making big decisions.

It depends. You really have to assess yourself. Are your retirement savings enough to sustain your lifestyle for the rest of your life? There are so many things to consider. You should also take into account your family's opinion about your plans to retire early. I actually want to retire by the time I am 35 years old so I really have to amp up my investments and passive income to achieve this. I am currently 25yrs old and how I wish I could have prepared for retirement earlier in my life. It is much easier to start planning for early retirement if you start early.

Apart from the monetary issues, on which I agree with the previous posts, there are other aspects to be considered by someone wishing to retire at an early age. One of them is the fact that, pensioners have so much free time in their hands, that if they usually feel bored, inactive and useless. When a retired person does not take part in any kind of activity, just being idle all day, the result would certainly not be beneficial, since that would cause health problems.
