Oh yes, I had a nightmare of a trip about 12 years ago. I wouldn't call it a waste of money but boy was it ever a waste of my time and energy. Friends of mine have a daughter who, at the time, lived near the mountains of North Carolina. I planned a week's vacation and traveled with the daughter's parents. The only thing that I can remember enjoying was the beautiful foliage because the trip was sometime in October, I believe.
But it really went down hill from there. The daughter, even to this day, is always stressed and uptight about something. I can never relax around that kind of person. Another problem is that she and her father are so much alike that they are constantly butting heads about something. I'd like to butt their heads together and knock a little sense into them. Instead of enjoying the beautiful surroundings like I was supposed to do, I had to listen to the daughter gripe about this and that and everything else. If I could do it again, I would stay at a motel, not tell anyone of them where I was and do my own sightseeing tours.
By the time I got home and went back to work, my well meaning colleauge asked how my vacation was. I told her it was awful and that I was more stressed after I got home than before I left.
What an absolute waste.
Now, anytime I do any traveling, I'm with my Best friend who I know, trust, rely on and thoroughly enjoy being with. We always have fun together and if I'm not traveling with my friend then I travel alone. I'm not taking anymore chances. I no longer have patience for that kind of stupidness.
