I finished reading this book a few days ago and highly recommend it.
I don't think I would be ruining the book for you if I mention that it is about racism in the 1960's in the South, in the U.S.

It was a very good read and informative, too.

This first novel by Kathryn Stockett is amazing. This is one of those few books that grabbed my emotions and interest so deeply thatd my emotions and interest so deeply that I could not stop thinking about the book when I would set it down to attend to other activities (like eating, sleeping & working!). I was engrossed and couldn't wait to read more, while at the same time savoring every chapter as the story developed.
This book is now on my list of all-time favorites and I recommend everyone read it for a deeper, personalized understanding of just how far the country has come since the Civil Rights Law was passed, as well as to enjoy a truly well-written novel.
Have a nice day!

This is a really great book. I think the author did an amazing job capturing the language of the time. I have always had an interest in the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and have read a lot about it, so I'm not sure there was much 'eye opening' for me, but I imagine there will be for many. This was a selection by my book club and it made for some excellent discussion. I highly recommend this book as well. Nice discuss, fineartist.

oh i simply loved the book! everything was so good about it. the characters were specially very interesting and nice twists and turns kept me engrossed in the book. the only mistake i did was, read it as an e-book. i advise that this book should never be read online cause its a page turner and you can hardly keep it down. it is an amazing book with a wonderful ending check out the review of the book here. http://bookstove.com/book-talk/the-help-a-book-review/

I read this book last summer and though it was really good and was still an eye opener even though it was about the 1960's. When I first started reading the book I did not like it, I had to get past a few chapters first to really get into the book and then I could not put it down.
