Why do some people smoke?

As a non-smoker, I really wonder why do some people smoke? What do they get from it? Well, in fact the bad effect of smoking is highly publicized.

Im helping our economy by boosting the sales of products subject to sin tax. The more that they sell, the higher the tax.

Addiction. All the friends I know who smoke want to quit... they're just having a hard time quitting the habit.

People smoke because it calms them down and makes them feel good. Smoking is also addictive as well.

i am also a non-smoker..and i have some friends who smoke.., a lot.. and some of them smoke to release stress from their jobs.., to make them feel sleepy and some to boast their appetite..they have different reasons but it all ends with a damaged lungs.., =( but when i was still a student.. it was discusses to us as part of the growth and development of an individual..,we all passed the oral stage during infancy..,wherein if the oral self is not gratified well at this time.., people tends to develop oral fixation and that's why people became smokers..
