Would you cook if you're just eating alone?

I don't cook much nowadays because I find it impractical to prepare a meal just for myself. It's always enjoyable if you're not going to eat your prepared meal alone. How about you? Would you still cook if it is just for yourself?

Hi, emdye09. Yes, I would cook if I was eating alone. I would not cook a bid meal though. Just enough for me to eat on that's all. But if, my family is gone on a Sunday, I will cook a big meal and save some for them when they get back.

I cook for myself all the time. I live by myself, just me and my dog. And of course I don't feed him people food. I get tired of TV dinners, and I want to eat healthy, so I actually enjoy cooking for myself. It isn't hard to fix proportions that are fit for just one person, and if I make more than I can eat in one sitting, I don't mind having it for leftovers.

It is possible that I would cook for myself, when I'm just eating alone. I would cook few meals from scratch like vegetable pizzas and stir fry in my apartment. There would be most of the times, I had to eat most of the food because my mother would come visit late at night from her minimum wage job.

I cook every day just for myself. I like to cook but noone here but me to enjoy it. I don't think anything about it, it's just the way it is.

I have always cooked for just me, alone. I like good food, trying new recipes, and I like to cook. But, now that I'm getting older, it's a bit harder and less joyful, especially the cleanup.

That's one reason to keep cooking even if you're eating alone. It's confidence building. Hehe. Thanks for the comment cher913.

no. for i dont know how to cook. when i was single and my mother is not around i will eat out. i am now married for 8 years to a wonderful woman who loves to cook. so if ever that i will be alone at home and she did not cook for me i will eat out. though there was an incident where my wife brought our son for a well baby check up and there was prepared ingredients at the kitchen. through texting my wife instructed me how to cook it and i made it. it was all ready when they arrived home. but if it is for myself only then i will just eat out.

Thanks for the comment se7enthbird. Your wife probably is happy to know that he can rely on you even in cooking. (At least with her instructions.)

Funny I read this discussion when I did. I was just thinking the same thing. I think I might cook more if it was just for me. My family is so picky, that at times I get upset cooking for them. For example, if I cook meatloaf...pretty simple, most people eat it right??? On kid doesn't like onions, the other one won't eat it without onions, I like green peppers in mine, my husband hates green peppers..another child likes green peppers, but no onion. See what I am up against. The meatloaf think I have mastered, individual mini meatloaves. Funny thing is, when they were all little they all eat whatever was on the table. I had to eat whatever my mom cooked, if I didn't like it I starved. :-)

Yeah. It would be difficult to cook for choosy people. I cook more if I'm with my family because my mother appreciates it if I do the cooking instead of her doing it. But if I am alone, I'll just eat out. It's more convenient than cooking for myself. (Since I also don't buy groceries regularly which means there's really nothing to cook anyway.) Thanks for the comment gdesjardin.

Sometimes I wish I could just cook for myself. however I have 5 kids lol so my cooking days are still at hand. If all the kids were grown I'd have a field day cooking for myself. I love to cook. but cooking for a big family can be tiring. I want to the opposite of you lol and just cook for myself. no more picky eaters! but anyways yeah I would do half and half cook and eat out shouldn't cost much because it's just you.

True, cooking for a big family is tiring. But I've always thought that home-cooked food is way better than food outside. Someday, when I have my own family I'm sure I'll relate to how you feel. Thanks for the comment msinfo79.

Hi, If I am just eating alone, then i may just cook instant noodle.Easy and can eat fast too. At least, I no need to clean up the kitchen. Or maybe just buy some food from outside. More practical. However, I cook for my family everyday and we hardly dine out.

Thanks for the comment shia88. The problem though with instant noodles is that I am afraid that eating it everyday won't be good for one's health, although I agree that it is very convenient to cook if you're just eating alone.

well as long as i have enough time then why not. when i cook, i am sure it is safe whereas buying some food stuff in a "carenderya" isnt that sure if it is clean or safe.

I don't live alone, for now i have to cook for 2 people, but yes, i think if i was alone, i would cook too. I like cooking and i always make experiments with food, that's how i found that with some easy things you can cook things, which are really tasty Eating is cheaper when you cook, that's my opinion, before me and my boyfriend eat only hot-dogs, pizza, hamburgers and ready things made out of home. I don't like raw food and for us it was like 50$ every week for eating out. Now for 50$ i can buy different things from the store and can cook them more than a week and i'm sure i'll have rice, beans, chicken, pig meat, potatoes, cheese, eggs and other things easy for making. I hope mylot support are not going to delete this response, because i know that receipts are not allowed, but i mean that for this money i can buy and cook a lot of things. More tasty than out done food.

I don't actually cook. Now that I think about it, about once a month my mother makes porridge, I don't know why, because I certainly don't eat it. My sister makes macaroni, and she makes it wrong so I don't eat it. Then I make something, and everyones clamoring to get it. What's with that? I like making pastries when listening to a audiobook. I like making fried potatos just so I could eat them (and only me mind you, however much I make them, they're just soooo good and well, let's just say I absolutely understand why french chefs have kittens when all is not as it should be.) I enjoy making soups. I always make a big pot so it would last couple of days. Funny thing is, by the evening same day, most of the pot is empty, curtesy of me. And the Cat of course. The Cat really likes what I put in that soup. So I guess the answer would be yes I 'cook' even if I'm alone, because in my opinion making soup or fried 'tatoes is easier than making sandwich (when the components are in the fridge and no one has secretly eaten them.)

Well, you obviously enjoy cooking and you're probably a good cook that's why your family is clamoring over your cooked meals. Thanks for the comment babyimp.

I've been guilty of that too before. But people always want other people to serve them so now I've changed, when I'm with my family, I usually cook for them too. Thanks for the comment Gorillafootprints925!

I might cook something up, even if it's just for myself. Although it's really not very often. If I'm alone, I'll usually just make something simple, easy, quick, like a sandwich or something like that. Usually that's what I do. But sometimes I'll actually cook something up.

I often do cook just for myself and I still enjoy it. I'm a vegan, and I love trying out new recipes. I am quite busy during the year, with school and work and making time for my fiance, however there are many easy, quick recipes that I have no problem throwing together. Cooking for myself also allows me to eat far healthier than most people would when they do not cook for themselves.

Even if I'm alone. I want to cook for myself because I don't like to buy outside aside from being expensive, fast food can make u fat. Because when I'm alone I usually it bread, chicken and vegetables. It's nutritious and easy to prepare, too.

I guess if you're just preparing bread and salad, or a sandwich, it's okay, but in my case, since I'm Filipino, each meal means cooking rice and a dish, and that's just requires much effort considering that I'll just eat the meal alone. I usually end up with leftovers, or what I cook for breakfast is the same food I'll eat till dinner and that sucks, or if I'm going to eat everything I prepared, it usually means eating a lot so I find it more convenient to eat out. When you eating by yourself, I would perfer to rather just order take out rather than spending an hour over a hot stove cooking when you just can call a restuarant and get your food in 30 minutes. When you ask yourself," Was it worth wasting an hour of my life to cook food for myself?", then you'll see how easy you can make things by just ordering takeout! ^_^
