Almost in every nation, celebrities now invade politics. These are not uncommon scenarios in politics nowadays. No aspect of celebrities private lives were left unexplored... No candid picture unpublished...They are the most talked personalities in the world...To some this is not unusual, to some this is a disturbing formula. Just like any qualified politician, some celebrities also had attained education which is integral in entering politics. It is also a fact that becoming a politician is not all about being famous for it entails a lot of responsibilities. As they enter politics where lawmaking becomes their primordial duty, could they be effective lawmakers of our country? You may want to share your point of view on this. Thank's!

To become a lawmaker the most important thing we have to take into consideration is that they should know the "Law", has political will, knowledge on how to pass a bill to become a law and others. The issue here not whether or not celebrities can become a lawmaker but rather whether or not they are qualified to be such. If these celebrities would be able to prove to their constituents they have the ability, right motive and not just for personal gain and they qualifies to the criteria as provided by law then they can be an effective lawmaker. Public service should not be taken as a trial and error battle ground because damage to the public is irreparable.

In my former job, I had the opportunity to draft some legislative bills which fortunately were eventually enacted. I do not have any background in law or for that matter in "lawmaking" but we were able to do it. We conducted research and found all the right "ingredients" in drafting a bill. We also had the opportunity to face our lawmakers during public hearings. I guess aside from qualifications, there should also be passion and commitment. Being a celebrity just helped propel their political ambitions.

oplopez81, I can see that you know your "Law" well when you filed your bill to become a law. ;)

Uncommonly, celebrities have this notion that they are the right people for public office. They are too modest to admit it. Perhaps, but majority of them just use this as a tool for their personal vainglory. We could see most of them struggling to ingest tons of information with regard to their office only after being elected. Why? They, literally, found out that they are also too modest to admit that they are without any idea of the office they were elected for. The once deemed august chamber of the senate and hr is now a stage for performing rehearsed acts. On the other side, the voters are also intelligent ENOUGH to have placed (assuming) them where they are. ÜÜÜ

I agree with you. Today's politics is now being captured by celebrities in either of the movie or music industries to be particular. However, we must also give them the favor of doubt. Let us allow them first to exercise their functions as public officials. Despite their past or current images as celebrities, we should not used these facts as an ultimate criteria to judge them. Lets just focus in guarding these new figures on how they should run the government. They still need our cooperation, respect and trust to build that confidence within them in their new field of concern, which is the mysterious world of "politics."

Ideally, a lawmaker must know or at least familiar with the law of his land or nation. In a very plain and simple manner, one should know that before a law becomes a part of the law of the land it should first be filed as a bill. ;)
