Right!! The answer is 18.
Let's say there are n bullets. After division each one gets n/3 bullets. After they shot 4 bullets each, they have (n/3)-4 bullets each. From the given problem,
3((n/3)-4) = n/3. So, n = 18.

Suppose there are n bullets in the first place. Each of the three friends got equal number of bullets from 'n' bullets. So, after each one of them shot 4 bullets each, the remaining number of bullets is equal to the number of bullets each one got before they shot. You have to find 'n'.
