Most of the NBA stars are sitting out this one: Germany - Dirk Nowitzki, France - Tony Parker and Joakim Noah, Spain - Pau Gasol, USA - well, just about the entire gold medal winning 2008 Olympic team. With the USA team decimated by no-shows, the field is pretty much open. Who do you think will win it all?

The US Team will be having a hard time even in the elimination round coz only have one legit center. I will bet for Spain but if you ask me for a fantasy championship game, I want Greece and Serbia.. That would be interesting.. What do you think? lolz

Hehehe... I think you're referring to the latest chair throwing incident in which Nenad Krstic was arrested by the Greek police. Yeah, it would be real interesting considering the make up of these teams are almost similar (The shortest player for Greece is Spanoulis who stands 6'4" while the shortest on the Serbian team is Teodosic who stands 6'5". My, these are really tall teams) and they share a similar passion for basketball (The big money Greek teams hiring top flight Serbian players.) Their brand of play is similar... yes it would be very interesting I agree. Speaking of carbon-copy teams, what's your take on Spain-Argentina? A pretty interesting match-up too don't you think?

I'm argentinian and I think Argentina will have to do a very hard effort to get some nice results, and now without Nocioni, it'll be much harder. I don't agree with Ginobili, he should be on this team...

It doesn't matter, the USA will still dominate. An NBA team could win the championship, they just know the game so much better, that the players might not be the best in the leauge, but they are still good regardless, you don't get choosen to the USA team if your not good obviously.

I have a couple of teams in mind that has a huge chance at winning the 2010 FIBA World Championships. I won't discount Team USA because they still have excellent guards who can run plays, make assists and shoot 3 pointers. They have Kevin Durant. They just need to improve their defense though. Other than USA, I highly think Greece, Spain and Turkey's roster can beat up all the other teams in the world championships. Spain even without Pau can still play well because they have Rubio and other great players there. Turkey lead by Hedo Turkoglu and other players who plays in the NBA too. Greece? Who'd forget how they beat Team USA back in 2008 even if they had Wade and LeBron in the line-up. Any team can win it really. No lopsided match ups in my opinion. But I highly rout for Team USA. Best of luck to your teams.

This tournament I guess goes for Spaniards. Not to compare their nba caliber players to American counterpart but Spaniards I think will share the ball well compare to high flying American talent. We all know individual talent could help team but team who shares the wealth often wins. Yes Kobe Bryant is a ball hogger but without him on the tournament for USA is a minus for leadership, which is needed for a team where everybody can score.
