Hi everybody, have you heard of this story? Once someone drop a 50 cents coin and a dollar on the ground, then a boy picked up the 50 cents. This person was puzzled, why did he not pick up the 1 dollar instead or even both? He decided to test him. The next day, he did it again and sure enough, the boy picked up the 50 cents. Well this person told a friend, and he didn't believe there was such a stupid boy in the world and he decided to try it. You know what happens next...
So do you think the boy is stupid or smart?

wow. The wisest boy ever .. the boy is the smartest.
and, the guy who is dropping the coins is the dumbest. jack-a$$
it is because, if the boy picked up the dollar, the person would have asked for it, and pocketed that. .. but, as the boy picked up just the half-dollar coin, the person presumed the boy to be stupid, and gave yet another 50cents, the next day.
cheers.

The boy is VERY lucky.....and smart.
The person dropping the money and his friend are losing 50 cents every time they do their experiment.
But the boy is getting 50 cents for FREE every time.
And by not taking the dollar, these guys are going to keep trying their experiment and showing their friends who are going to try the experiment, and they're going to say, "This boy is a fool......why doesn't he pick up the dollar? Let's try it again."
But who's really the fool?

That's the cost of the experiment. Little do they know they are the ones being experimented.

Hi bluemoonpavilion by reading this story i hope this is a different story line.As from my point of view i am thinking that boy is intelligent because if the boy do's like that then daily he can get 50cents.So, that this may don't stop.If he take the 1 dollar then no one don't observe him about this. The boy is same type of me i think. He is smarter like me. Just kidding.

Hi smart sunny,
That boy is smart and has a fast working brain, I hope he puts it to good use. We have a Chinese saying, that a blade can cut both ways. Being clever and intelligent is good but we must be careful how we use it. Bad guys need cleverness to commit crimes too.

Oh wow, you have just given a new angle to the story...boy gangs up with man to cheat others, then split profits....

Your discussion draws my attention. After I read it, I understand that this boy is very smart. When he always picks up the 50 cents coin, then next day he can pick up another 50 cents coin continuously. If at first he chose to pick up the one dollar coin, then at the end he could only gain one dollar rather than the unlimited money:)
I love China

Thanks youless for giving your comments. I'm just curious whether that was really his intention in the first place and if not, at what point in time did he realize he can take advantage of others' stupidity.

I believe the boy is clever, butcause if the man will test every day he gets 50 cents every day = $3.5 a week - oppoesed to if he picks up the $1 he is only of with a total of $1

Yes it is ofcause given that the man needs to continue test if the boy is stupid :P But the normal logic would tell you to pick up the 1 dollar at first instance instead of the 50 cents.

Being logical doesn't mean it's good. In this case, it's precisely the boy being illogical that he piqued the interest of the man.

Yes, the boy is going against normal logic. That makes it interesting to know what's his motive.

I don't know what happens next because I don't know the story. Did the boy pick up the fifty cents so that the man would test him and give him another fifty cents? I think it would be better to just pick up the dollar since in the end, he still only got a dollar and what if the man decides not to test him? But children are creative so let them do it their way.

You have a point there animegirl, the man might be smart to have seen through him, but I guess many will jump to conclusions when they see something that is out of the ordinary or unreasonable, especially adults when dealing with children.

bluemoonpavilion the boy was more clever than smart as if he had pocked all of it or the dollar, the person would have asked for the dollar back b but instead he just passed the boy off as stupid so the kid picked up another fifty cents without any reprecussions.

Hatley,
The boy could have picked the 50 cents by mistake the first time round, when he realize it happened a second time, he would already have earned back what he lost the first day. So he continues....

smart kid - stupid guys. I'd do the same thing, get the 50 cents till all of their friends try doing the same thing. I'd be earning with not much efforts. lol. I wouldn't care if they think I'm a fool. I think they are more stupid.

if greed is not the motivation in the first place...
now the question is, how to get the stupid man to remain stupid?

The boy is clever and outsmarted that person dropping the coins.Well, this is how and what the story presents. The man will continuously dropping coins until he figures ou why the boy always picking up the 50 cents rather than the dollar. Or he keeps himself amused thinking that the boy hasn't figured it out yet that he is stupid picking 50 cents than the dollar.Hence, unaware that the joke is on him.
Realistically speaking, I doubt if that person will keep dropping coins to figure out the mystery all by himself, without asking the boy.:)

He may probably show off to his friends, "hey, I found a stupid boy who chooses to pick up 50 cents instead of a dollar, maybe he is a nitwit that he can't differentiate between more or less. Come and see?"
So he pulls his friends into it and they started feeding the boy with coins.
