Yes, the title of movie is the main theme; the infamous "Black Death", other called the Great Pestilence or the Great Plague, widely believed as the Bubonic Plague that almost wipe the entire population of human race especially in Europe during Medieval times.
The movie tells the interesting stories of faith (Christianity and Paganism), witchcraft, love and miracles (how it can be misleading in times of desperation).
Sean Bean put an impressive performance again, I'm getting used to see him play medieval character since LORT, he's a sure fit in these types of role.
I've heard the director (Smith)has created some good horror films, but this is my first movie of him, evidently you can see a lot of horror elements in the film. The cinematography is good, and of course the screenplay is superb. Definitely one of the best film I've seen lately.

I just seen it in a borrowed DVD, yes it a new film, the screeplay/story will moved you, it will make you think how would you live in their time, what would trust..religion? miracles? or simple science, though science is not as much here except on the ending part when the narrator mentioned how the last village survive.
This film touched sensitive issues on religion, carefully balancing faith, the sin of Christianity its dark ages and so on.
I guarantee you, this is a film to watch.
