MyLot is being flooded with discussions that aren't even discussions and are not allowed on here. Read the guidelines please and follow them. MyLot staff work very hard to keep this site up so that members can have real discussions here and many people are on here to make a little extra cash. When you see a discussion that is asking for just a yes or no answer or other one word reply, ignore it. Don't reply to those discussions because you don't get paid for one word postings anyways. I have started to give - ratings and sometimes even report discussions that are "rate me and I'll rate you". This is not allowed here and this is not an honest way to earn points or money on myLot. If we all break the rules and try to cheat the system like this, myLot can't go on and will have to close down. Focus on real discussions and please don't repeat discussions that you see someone elses post. Everyone here is gettig very tired of seeing all the "how old are you" and "what's your favourite" this and that. Those are not discussions. Be imaginative and talk about something that really matters to you and the rest of the world. Very good topics one here are being ignored because they get lost in the flood of inappropriate topics. I'm sure the people who practice the one word discussions don't even bother to read this but if you have read this far, please don't respond to their discussions, it only makes them go up on the recent discussions list again.

I couldn't agree with you more. It is amazing to me the lengths people will go to just make a few pennies. I just read a post the other day about someone giving tips on how to make more posts in a day. They suggested only answering the questions that asked for one word replies. I think some of those "this or that, yes or no" type questions can be answered but I try to elaborate on why I answered the way I did.

There are so many people posting discussions with the secrets to make money on myLot but unfortunately those messages are usually copy/pasted from other discussions and aren't very accurate. Many of them actually give very wrong information, like the one where people are told to seek out the yes and no questions. If they bothered to read the guidelines, they would see they are not likely to make any money from them.

Have you read the guidelines yet? I think everyone should read them once in a while, not only new users.

Isas - I was under the impression that MyLot DOES monitor the site and posts. That they have folks that constantly review the site to find those who may be in vilotation. I got that from an alert they put out a while back asking people to use the rating system because they couldn't patrol the site all byt themselves. I have been a member since June and I know that up until maybe a month ago MyLot and their customer service people (or whatever you want to call them) we pretty active. You would see posts disappear on a regular basis and people got banned all the time, their responce time was a few hours. I hope they start showing up more frequently.

Maybe they do read some of the discussions but with over 36.000 members, there is no way their staff can read every post. That's why our ratings can help them and also us, the users.

myLot doesn't monitor the discussions but if enough members give them bad ratings or report them, they either lose points or the discussion/response gets deleted.

I haven't read the silly ones you posted I think but will check them out now. I think a little joke here and there is ok once in a while but this forum is meant for discussions. I'll check out your discussions and if I find something interesting I'll respond to it.

Now this is a disucssion I couldn't resist. I had to read it and respond to it even before I read it. I agree with almost everything that others have been saying in their responses on here so maybe there's not much to add to the discussion. There is one other thing that seems to be flooding the discussions today and that is religion. I thought I had logged into the wrong site when I saw all those hate discussions about religion. I have never seen anything like it before on myLot. I always try to stay out of religious conversation and I will not be responding to them here either. I think this is a very important discussion isasice and hope that more people will read it. I have also noticed a lot of bad advice from other members on here but thankfully you had warned me about those before I started so hopefully I can avoid the beginners mistakes.

I knew you wouldn't resist this discusion Iceland :) Yes it is important that new members get the right directions when they start on myLot. I want my no means to make anyone think that I'm assuming I know everything about how things work on here but I just can't see how this site can last long if it keeps going the way it has been lately.

This discussion must be kept going, in the hope that some new people will actually follow the advice in it. Please keep checking this discussion and responding to it from time to time, so that it comes back up to the top. A lot of new people will not know how to do a search and what words to use when doing it, so we must try and make this page boil up to the top every now and again to refresh it. Welcome Iceland -

Soon as I saw you posted this topic I knew it would be a good one. In three days here I have learned to look for the avatars of a few people that do not ask silly questions, and I was right. I will be asking you to become a friend if that is ok. Since yesterday I have been negative marking as well, using the Search facility in order not to repeat discussions that all already going and basically trying to use all the guidelines. Today I have written to a couple of newbies who posted one-worders and posts that fall outside the guidelines, explaining the rules to them so that they do not keep doing it. I shall go back and see what happens there in my own discussions I have joined section. We need to stamp on this because otherwise mylot may well be shut down and I would really miss the genuinely interesting threads that are going on.

it's a good thing you come out with this. I'm a newbie and I really want to earn but I think I'm responsible enough because I read your guidelines first. I'm having a hard time thinking about what topic will I start that could be so much interesting. I also use your search engine on the upper left corner so that I can only post to the topics where I am very much interested.

This is a situation that has been irritating quite a few of us for some time. I sincerely hope that you statement of Mylot not paying for those 2 or 3 word answers is true, because it would be appalling to think that these people are valued higher than someone like yourself who offers a higher calibre of posts and replies. More important than the financial aspect is the problem that we encounter finding topics. There are plenty of interesting discussions taking place, but we have to dredge through pages of garbage to locate them.

I agree Asylum, I hope it is true that the don't pay for the one worders. That's how I understood the FAQ's and guidelines. At least you are likely to get paid more for thorough responses that have something to do with the discussion. I have reported many of those questions, especially the "rate me I'll rate you" discussions.

Thanks for posting this. I oculd not agree more. I do practice what you do - I give negative ratings to repeat posts and to the posts that don't comply to the guidelines. I think MyLot has to do their part to. They need to enforce the guidelines and kick members who do not comply. I am sure if they did that the community count would start to drop.

MyLot doesn't monitor the discussions as that would simply be impossible so it's upto us, the users to report the ones who are not following the guidelines. I have told many members that I have reported them and I don't care if they give me a negative rating or report me. I'm here for the discussions, not for the money or points.

That's an ongoing issue that is as old as myLot.. I haven't been here since the beginning but long enough to see that even when myLot makes suggestions on how to post and answer discussions...most people either don't bother to read them or interpet them in some very odd universe of their own.

Yes, the guidlines need to be more visible I think. I think a lot more people would reed them if the link to them was on the top of the page, not the bottom. I didn't read them until I had been here for a while, simply because I never saw them. I also made the mistake of reading all those fake guidelines other members keep posting and copy/pasting from each other.

You are right . I also have been feeling the same annoyance with the yes no type of discussions . But one thing , if the system continue to give points for such responses / discussions people will not stop doing it .You konw , when I tried to analyse matters one response came sarcastically " are you a philosopher?" I found that being analytical consumes much time and they get less responses . Another important point is writing good English. Modern electronic style of abbreviations are necessary , but overuse of them make the forum uninteresting .

I agree completely. It is understandable that when you get the whole world together, not everyone is going to be able to write the perfect English. Many people on here have English as their 2nd language (it's actually the 3rd language I learned). However there is no need for the shorthand spelling on here, it doesn't take much longer to write please than plz. I have noticed that many of the non-English speaking members seem to thing it's "cool" to know all those abbreviations and I suspect some of them for making up new ones so it's not very easy to read their posts. This could be a venue where we should be able to practice our English, not make it worse. The abbreviations are becoming a problem in many countries though. Icelanders have always been good at keeping our language clean of slang and we always get new Icelandic words that fits into the language when there are some new inventions or changes in technology. Unfortunately the "text generation" is slowly losing the capability to spell as it's "in" to use the slang and abbreviations. The teachers have noticed that it's much harder to teach kids how to spell now than it was before the text mania.

Nicely worded post. I appreciate your attention to the details. I too, try not to answer the silly ones, but I'm sure like everyone else, in the begining I did. I only have 6 discussions started because I do not want to duplicate (Although I did duplicate one even after I searched) or start a discussion just to get paid.

i agree with what you're saying here. when i started in myLot i was trying to post sensical discussions (up to now they still got zero responses, hehe), and i took real time to respond to posts. however, i guess the point-system clearly indicates that the more you answer, the more you earn. it doesn't matter how relevant your posts are, it's a point per post. and i got to thinking that the only time your relevant post would matter is if it's given a positive rating (a plus) or accorded the best response. i don't know, and i guess there's no way to know since myLot even discourages members to figure out their earning system, sigh. still i take time to help mylot monitor posts, especially the repeated ones, by rating it negative. nah, i don't take time to write a letter to them unless i'm pretty annoyed like if someone just copy-pasted my answer in a discussion. oh well, somehow i just go on with the flow, and enjoy the discussions, and the earnings. but i salute your concern and your taking step to improve mylot's discussions. WTG! :)

If people on here got points for reporting others, everyone would be reporting everyone. Too many people on here would do anything for money. I don't care if people give me bad ratings because the money I earn here is never going to end up in my pocket so it doesn't matter to me. Therefore I'm not afraid to let people know that I have reported them.

I agree with you, it is really boring with all the questions that are almost the same. The problem is that people are here to make money, and the easy discussions get more replies than more meaningful ones. Even if I post discussions like “do you prefer X/Y – why/why not” I get replies like yes/no. Besides I like to follow some of the discussions I reply to, and also post questions in my responses to my own discussions, but only a few follow up on their posts.

The thing is that users are not supposed to be getting paid for the one word discussions or the nonesense one. MyLot needs more moderators and if they have rules, they should make sure they are being followed. I know they don't have enough staff to monitor every word on here but it would be very easy for them to check out the most "active" users and go through a few of their discussions. When we hit the "hot topics today" there is hardly any topic there other than the "do you like" or "am I pretty" or similarly intelligent and interesting discussions.

Do you not have 'moderators' on site that can identify and inform misusers of the correct terms and conditions? Another suggestion would be to adopt the traffic light system, three warnings and your account is terminated. I get tired of people responding to my discussions with 'I don't know' That is not helpful, irritating and a waste of time, these people clearly aren't interested in the discussion and just want to make money. It also makes a mockery of the system I love Mylot its a great community and I am glad to be here and enjoy taking part in the discussions. I hope the 'few' do not destroy a great site for the 'many' There, said my peace!

isasice, I think I have posted some good discussions, and many times, I go into a lot of detail leaving a comment. We'll all get a little glib from time to time. But the Lame questions like "What color are your eyes?" You cannot make that a dicussion. I answered "Brown both of them." just to keep it from being a one word answer. When I was first told about this site. I was lead to believe that you answered Peoples questions... I assumed, the questions or answers rather would help someone. Knowing my age, hair color,am i cute,or what my sign is. Isn't helping anyone! And If people continue to ask these type of questions, and they will. And you are compelled to answer them. Answer with more than one word, ELABORATE...... I'll get off my soap box now.(american term for "I'll stop talking now")my world wide friends.

:). I agree with you. can't think of one reason what my eye colour has to do with anything or could in any way help other members on here. Even when you make a whole sentence to tell your age or eye colour, you are helping the person who posted the discussion to move it back into circulation so that more members will notice it on the recent disussions list. If we completely ignore them or only open them to give them a -rating, it's more likely that people will stop doing this. Unfortunately those discussions were replaced yesteday by religious hate discussions that were flodding my screen so I just left.

I did not realise the rate me and I'll rate you stuff was forbidden. My apologies on that but when I made those kind of posts it was not about cheating the system, it was about trying to get friends to network with other friends, and communicate and respond with eachother more. So my apologies if anything I posted in the past was against this... As far as cheating the system I am not on there for that. I am here to earn money yes, but I am also here to make new friends, within the community and to have fun. Thank you for sharing so I would not further repeat the rating mistake, take care - DNatureofDTrain

I think I did a similar post in my first days, it wasn't rate me and I'll rate you but it had a similar message. In the same message I referred to my friends on here, all those who keep posting messages asking people to add them as friends so that they can rate others and promises to return the favour. I did question how someone with over 1000 friends could keep up with that and hinted that they were tricking other users into rating them and responding on their discussions. That message got deleted only a few minutes later.
18 Nov 06
I try to reply to questions I find interesting with a developed argument or viewpoint. It is unimportant to me whether others post a 1 word reply, they are the losers not only in earning points but in the art of communication also. I love to hear differing ideas and views on many subjects. It is sad when people don't or won't communicate but will use a system out of a kind of pathetic greed.

This is at least my fifth attempt to reply to your input here, hope it works this time. Yes it is very sad. I think it is important that we do NOT post in the 1 word discussions because that makes them more visible and we are helping them. Many of them do it because they don't know any better, they see everyone doing it and they read all those false advice posts.

Glad you saw this before you gave up. I know there are some interesting discussions out there and I sometimes spend a lot of time finding them. I often go to the profiles of the people in my friends list and check out what interesting discussions they have been responding. From there I often find other good ones.
