Should bullfighting be stopped?

Today I read an article relating to a bull running riot in a at the ring south of Pamplona.
Video at standard.co.uk/bull
It injured 40, and was duly killed. It just strikes me as peculiar that we allow murderers and rapists (at least in Europe) a number of years in prison at the cost of the state (us!), and yet animals are still killed for sport!
What do you think?

I heard about that, sounds to me like karma was taking affect there ;).
It could be worse though, at least it is sort of a fair fight and all. But, nonetheless, it should be stopped.

Hiya Mem,
I live about 40 kilometres from that place it actually occurred in Tafalla a small Town who were having their Fiestas.
The Bull had it quite easy to jump up there. Of course because it has never happened there they have never thought that the boundaries around the People should have been much higher.
Bulls are able to jump quite a height if they want to I have seen a few do it.
A young Boy was seriously injured in the Abdomen and another some rib injury or something. I really have no idea how he is because once the News has passed they don´t usually let anyone know what went on after. I imagine he must be getting over it otherwise they would have said that something had happened to him.
I knew that they would kill the Bull they did not have to but because he injured People well that is what they do here. A Bull will defend himself anywhere he has no favourites when it comes to doing so when he feels threatened he will go for anyone and try to escape.
I see your point of view also.
Personally I am against Bullfighting because it´s downright cruelty but I, me myself cannot stop these things either.
However I think that they are considering making the surrounding higher so the animal is unable to climb or jump that high. I just wonder why they never saw the problem looking straight at them for years amazing.

Hiya Mem,
I think that the Boy is fine too otherwise like I said they would be stating the opposite as Tafalla is quite a famous place.
A young lad who put´s those awful "banderillas" into the Bull while he is running after him was gored five times last week and was very seriously ill with blood group problems or something like that.
There are quite a few injured Bullfighters I mean that is the risk they take and I doubt if that will influence the outcome of all this.
Good News is that they are not allowed now to ill treat the Bull in their Fiestas so that is an improvement the Bull is now sent back to his Coral when they have finished the Fiestas. In fact a lot of the Bulls are in local Fiestas in a lot of Villages so they get to know what is going on and they become wise and can become more dangerous again this is a risk People take when they go there.
We had Foxes where I lived before and they caused no harm to anyone ever. Bulls don´t spread disease as such but they can pick up other animal diseases and spread them too becoming carriers of the same. Deer have a sickness this year that have kileed up to about 50 so far and they live near to these animals. But most Bulls are penned in by huge Fields so it´s hardly likely they will get this illness I hope not anyway. Near to Villafranca and Estella you can see whole fields of Bulls and Heifers they are still calving in one or two places.
Depending on which Road you take you can see the Fields from a different angle and you get to see all of them in one go. Thing is you are not allowed to stop on the Road.

I don't really know much about bullfighting, but I know in some countries it's just a cultural thing like football over here. They don't really care much for the bull, but only the talent and skill of the person who can control the bull in those dangerous circumstances...it's actually quite cruel to the bull, manipulating it in a way to provide entertainment, but I think it's another one of those things where the humans like to display and show how much more superior they are in comparison to the primitive animal. I think bull fighting will be stopped some day, especially from what has happened and shown in the media, it will only be considered because of human safety and not because of the welfare of the animal...

Hi,
It is very sad that the animals are killed just for fun. It is very embarrassing for the mankind. In some areas there are people who use goats or hens for fighting. We feel very sad to see paining and dying animals on videos.
