Feeding my hummingbirds

My hummingbirds have become an essential part of my day. I have two feeders filled with just plain sugar water on separate sides of the house and I stand every morning while drinking my cup of coffee and watch the antics of these little creatures.Often there is a "guard" hummingbird and he is very astute at keeping watch over his feeder and chasing away all comers. It works pretty well because I have two feeders and the birds seem to flit back and forth between them My neighbor is jealous because she only has a couple of hummingbirds that frequent her feeder while I seem to have twelve and sometimes more.

That is so cool..I have cana lilies and rose of sharon planted in my yard and this year was the first year I saw 2 hummingbirds and when I went to get a picture, they flew away..:( They are really awesome to watch, I hope they come around again, but I think the flowers have dried up and I'll have to wait until next year..

Hi Knewfy, Hummingbirds are SUCH a joy, aren't they? I had a feeder near the small notch in my little tree outside my dining room window. I can watch this window from my seat at the kitchen table (where I have my laptop most of the time). There were two (I think only two) hummingbirds that came to it. Unfortunately, it was broken and I haven't replaced it since the summer is almost over. I will get a new one next year. They are such marvelous little creatures to watch. I suspect a squirrel probably broke the hummingbird feeder. The squirrels LOVE that tiny notch in the tree to sit there and eat their nuts from my oak trees. I go over to the window to watch them and they don't mind that a bit. They just sit there and chomp away. : ) I have a love/hate relationship with squirrels right now. But, that's for another discussion. : ) Perhaps the hummingbirds like your sugar water better than your neighbor's water? What strength sugar water do you use? They are very astute at choosing the best and not wasting any more of their precious time and energy to find food than they have to. Think of all the energy they must use up with those little wings going a mile a minute like that!
