I just started back walking and walked a mile my first trip to the track. I wasn't even out of breath or tired. I walk around the house and in the yard with my 4 year old grandaughter. I am getting exercise. I don't have a pedometer and want one. I remember seeing somewhere that you could get one free. If any one of you know how you can go about getting a free pedometer I would love to know. I am real excited about walkiing. I don't think I need to lose weight, that is not the reason I have started back walking. I am 5'9 and weigh 122 pounds. I am walking for blood circulation and to strengthen my bones. I am thinking about getting some of those hand held weights to carry when walking. I plan to walk every day, there may be one or two days a week that I can't get to the track, but I already feel better after getting the body moving. Do any of you walk? If so, how many miles dop you walk? I have made 5 miles my goal to walk. I may not make it, I might stop off at 3 miles. I hope to have fun.

Good for you! I think people should get a little bit of exercise everyday. It doesn't have to be just because we need to lose weight. It can be just because we want to keep our bodies moving and agile. Make our bones active, like a well-oiled machine. I walk about 15 minutes a day. Just to start my day off. Like you, I walk around the house. Up a few flight of stairs and around my living room. Just enough to get my heart rate up. I don't keep track of how many steps I've done or how far I have walked. I'm too lazy to do that. Hahaha! But as long as I feel I'm getting some exercise, then that's fine for me. My sweat is my indicator, I think. Haha! Hey, you could also get those ankle weights to add more resistance. My brother-in-law used to put on his backpack with a lot of stuff in it and he would walk up the same flight of stairs and around the living room. That's his weights. He said he'd rather use that than buy. So you could use anything in the house, really. Even your granddaughter. =)

Thank you for your response. I agree with you about the weights. I thought about that and started looking for something to use for weights. I did find an old backpack and put some books in it and that worked great. At this time with my grandaughter have some medical problems we have not been able to get out and walk. Have a great day.

Yes i do walk a lot. My class is on the sixth floor of the college building and i mostly take the stairs instead of the elevator. It is very rightly said "Walking is man's best medicine". It is one of the easiest and least expensive way to stay physically fit. Keep Walking and stay healthy!! Enjoy!!
