My daughter told me James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) had been trained by Filipino arnis experts for their fight scenes in their respective roles.
So move over Shintaro, you, too, Bruce Lee, espionage needs more cunning moves than judo, karate, taekwando, kung fu, and whatever martial arts we now have programmed. See how quick and smart 007 and JB carry themselves? That's Pinoy's arnis art of self defense! No wonder I was swooned, ha ha!
NB: Arnis is the national sport of the Philippines. It is played with sticks. The discipline requires lightning speed movements. Currently though, the sport is played only in schools as part of PE.

hiya eileen,
But I do so like Bruce Lee and the Shaolins when they do their exhibitions on the Television.
Is this art some kind of what they call Wu Shu?
I have´nt watched Daniel Craig recently so I will now and see if he does and how he does it.
I also love Jackie Chan I think all the ones I have mentioned are really great though.

Hi Angel, I have loved Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammy Ho since way back I don't know when. They started their careers in Hongkong and the Philippines is a die hard fan of Asian martial arts movies. Shintaro was a Japanese ninja and we adored him like crazy. So Bruce Lee will forever be etched in our hearts. Currently, a biopic is being shown in one of our networks. Arnis is not like wu shu. Arnis utilizes swift moves, the way Jason Bourne fought in the Bourne series.

Tnx Angel for showing us that arnis fundamental video clip. I didn't know arnis had gone to as far as Finland and other European countries. We don't even have tournaments here. What have are competitions for taekwando, karatedo, wu shu, and even tai chi.
The clip showed the basics. When in real confrontation though, the muscles flex and the sinews show. When one gets hit, it is really painful. Out students practice with rolled newspapers.

Hiya eileen,
Have found out what arnis is now have a link here and have been watching it but I still like the others like I said.
Not an affiliate link it´s about the Art of Arnis

Yes I can see it´s not like Wu shu quite like it though it would take time for it to grow on me I think.

Ouch! You poor little thing. Keep your arnis though and practice every now and then. They might need a sparring partner for Paris Hilton!

Hello eileen,
that is very cool indeed, i didn't think a filipino would be teaching them fighting scenes, that's something you don't hear every day. we do have one arnis back home but it was my brothers, i'd keep it just in case some one would try to rob our house. i wonder, maybe i could try a one year training on that sport, what do you think? so that i could have a good use of my brothers arnis, he's not using it no more.

True. And thus far, the Craig and Damon moves are the best I've seen in action packed movies of the recent years.
I used to have two arnis. One was donated to a public school. Like you, I will romance the other one left so I could use it to scare the bad people away.
Knight, I was really going to ask you to upload an arnis photo but I thought it was presumptive of me. So thank you for putting one there. Now the others would know what arnis is.
One more thing, could you help ElcBxn out? She couldn't find the lyrics for Bump Wood.

Never heard of arnis. Very interesting. Thanks for that. Does that mean one should not pick a fight with a Pinoy.

When I saw Bourne Identity the first time, I knew there was something peculiar but very familiar with the way he defended himself against his foe. I didn't associate the stances shown with arnis. When I saw Daniel Craig's portrayal of the fighting 007, I admired right away the way he flexed his muscles, prepared them for combat form and so on. I didn't know again it was kali or the Filipino way of fighting. I should be ashamed of myself. I didn't even recognize our very own sport. But I am happy we have something good to share to the world.

My daughter said the pain is part of the training. You get better when you learn to endure that pain.

Now I am surprised our marines are on You-Tube demonstrating the Kali. Uploaded by an American who studied fighting the Filipino way.

GMA signed Republic Act 9850 only last year to formally recognize Arnis as the national sport; long overdue perhaps?
Anyone live near Baguio?

I wish those experts fought in Discovery Channel's: FIGHT QUEST. Not our Arnis EXPERTS here who got beaten by Arnis Amateurs.

Wait a minute... Do you really mean that Jason Bourne Was trained by Filipino Arnis? That probably explains why I love watching those films every now and then. I love the fight scenes unlike other movies where fight scenes are not that natural.
