I am an Indian and Hindu.......It is said that Hinduism has about 33 crore or 330 million gods and goddesses. ancient scriptures have stated that Hinduism has "33 Koti Devas" which has been variously interpreted as 330 million or 33 crore (1 koti = 1 crore)....what do you think on that?

And here I was - with an excellent response - but I see you have already given the BR!
Ok - I read somewhere that hinduism is a philosophy - giving respect to all that others respect. So it grew because of its encompassing capabilities. More gods and goddesses were accepted as god of equal caliber, and given respect as Hindu gods, making everybody join the clan - like water drops coalescing.
Somewhere in between, some greedy people started misinterpreting things to their advantage, and the system collapsed. Now, we have problems in accepting others gods as our gods, which is kind of funny!!
There were several smaller tribes in ancient days, and each one had gods and goddesses different from others. Therefore those who lived in coastal areas prayed to sea and those who lived on mountains prayed to mountains. All these were brought together under one group, called Hindus.
Hope I've succeeded in explaining it a bit. :)

You should not confuse those DEVAS and GODS. Devas are angelic people but gods are different. Yet, one need not question the numerous gods in our Hindu mythology.
All humans are unique and each and everybody has his own choice. So, a man who wants to be peaceful can select Dhakshinamoorthy and one who wants celebration throughout his life can consider, Krishna! Likewise, we have various gods to fit all moods. Deep inside, they are all different forms of the same god, whatever name you call by. In fact, godliness is not confined to any specific structure, even.

I may not be familiar with Hinduism and the diffrent Gods and Goddesses in Hindu culture. But I know for a fact that this is just a literary piece that we really don't have to believe. Interpretations are not always real.

Godliness gives holiness which primarily amounts to respectfulness. This statement below I recall reading form a blog a while back:
This supreme consciousness manifests as universe, and all living and non-living beings, which are some of the basics to be believed to run the universe.
There are so many ways to see this point of view.
