There are many ways to protect ourselves from harmful microrganisms. However, the single most effective method to prevent the transmission of infectious organisms is to wash our hands often. For instance before and after eating, before and after handling of food, after touching a sick person, after going to the toilet, after sneezing, coughing or blowing our nose etc. The recommended time of handwashing is 40 to 60 seconds. Is washing of hands important to you? Do you wash your hands often?

Washing hands is very important to me. It's already one of my must-do routine when I am back at home. I normally washed my palms up to my elbow for 15~20 seconds using soaps. Beside of washing my hands, I wash my feet too.

you have the similar habit as my hubby, cheongyc. He has adopted such hand washing habit once arriving home, since the dreadful disease, SARS spreading seriously earlier. A few years back I think. A nurse told me before the cleaning of hand is effective only with the applying of soap. I could see the posters of the detailed ways with pictures and instructions shown on the wall right in front of every wash basin in kindergartens as well as schools

Yes, I found that the poster or illustrations stick at the basin in public places is descriptive enough. However, I am not sure how many people care to read it. But I read it and practice according to what is shown there. You are most welcome and have a nice day!

Hi ketping8899, to me the much dirties stuff is bank note. I could imagine how dirty the paper currency I have received with countless unseen germs harboring on it each time I receive from a cashier or vendor or .... Some even look really disgusting with unknown stuffs like bloodstain, etc sticking on it. I will get my hands washed thoroughly after touching the notes. if I could I prefer to purchase with either debit or credit card to avoid having contact with these dirty paper notes all the time. I will have my usual habit of washing hand after doing all kinds of things mentioned above. Thanks for sharing the valuable info about the recommended time of hand washing. I would like to wash my hands promptly after contacting any stuffs which are considered to be dirty with germs sticking on it. It's wise to keep my hands clean all the time to prevent from any infectious disease Happy posting

Hi Ikbooi, I do agree with you that paper currency especially those contaminated as you have mentioned, can be considered as a source of transmission of harmful microrganisms. Paper currencies are handled by various people and some of them may have forgotten to wash their hands after going to toilet or after handling body fluids or have no means of washing their hands when dealing with those notes.Using credit cards may be a solution for it but it is unconvenient to use credit cards when purchasing items costing a few dollars and less. I believe that you do have the healthy practice of handwashing,Ikbooi.Just keep in mind the type of soap you are using. Some soap lotion contain disinfectant which are useful when we are contacting with body fluids like faeces, urine and blood. Normal soap without disinfectant are for our casual handwash like before and after eating, before touching food or things. It is also good to wash not only our hands but our whole body after visiting public places particularly patients in the hospitals. This is to protect us and our family from infection transmission. Although hand hygiene is highly recommended as the spread of infections are the highest through our hands. Thanks and it is nice to hear from you. Have a wonderful day!

It is good that you do have good hand hygiene. Well done indeed. I hope you do moisturized your hands as you are washing it so often. Some of those soap lotion can be harsh to the skin of our hands. Dry skin can cause breakdown of the protective layer of our skin and expose our skin to higher risks of infection. Keep up your good practice of washing your hand often. Thank you for your response and happy Mylotting.
