Someone owed us money and we had to wait to get my husband's truck fixed for the 2nd time and to get a new computer until they paid us. Esp. since my husband is now unemployed abd I'm working one or two days a week on average. It's a lap top toshibah. I love that I can see the entire screen for a change instead of having to scroll back and forth across. My husband also bought a wireless keyboard and mouse. The ones with the lap tops drive me crazy. My wrist always touches down on the square on the bottom of the lap top keyboard and the next thing I know, I'm typing on a different spot. Also the keyboards are too flat for me. Now I have a nice wide screen and this one isn't crazy reflective like someo of them. It seems to have a high enough contrast for me. So I'm very happy. The borrowed one was a serious dinasaur. It was slow, but I appreciated the borrowed one because it's better than not having one. So now we'll give that one back. We have sooo much room on our desk now and on the side table next to the desk. It's an energy star, so we should use less electricity than our old one and our borrowed one. So when was the last time you bought or were given a new computer? Are you happier with the new one than you were with the old one? What did you like better? Was there anything you didn't like as well?

I buy new computers every third or fourth year and it's always exciting to see how much faster the new one is. The one I have now is a laptop and it's smaller than my old desktop but the screen is much clearer and easier to read. When you work online, having a good tool makes all the difference in the world.

Hi Peavey, long time no hear from you. Of course I've been off line for a while and I didn't want to overuse the borrowed one either. I was worried because some of the lap tops have terrible screens, but this one has a good screen. You still have to sit just right, but a friend of mine has one that is sooo bad that you can't seem to see anything no matter what you do, it's like blue on blue all the time, it's weird. I guess every 4 years a person needs a new one, but it seems like such a waste. Someone is supposed to recycle our old one, so I hope they do. It was a 2005 and it crashed for good this year, 2010, so I guess one in 4 years would have helped me avoid that. Thanks for responding and take care.

consider yourself lucky for that. not all husbands would give a gift like that. some would consider that as luxury especially when there is little opportunity to but our wants in this time of crisis. long live husbands like that.

My desktop is over ten years old, but still going along pretty well. I put a lot of new memory on it about six months ago. The laptop is six years old and is seriously beyond use for the most part. We had too little employment and too many emergencies for the last several months or I would have a new laptop just for my online work. I have seen some Toshibas that I really liked. Within the next month I hope to get a new laptop.

One is better than none. If we could have afforded it, we were thinking about buying two so that when one is down, we have the other one. Hubbie is looking for work, so it's less expensive than going somewhere else to get information on job openings. I hope you're able to get another lap top soon. I can't believe you're able to keep a computer going for that long. Of course, we were making our basic do all kinds of new stuff which burned it out, but who knew I would want to do all kinds of advanced stuff?

The thing that helps me with my computer is that my son can help out with the few times I have gotten viruses. I will say to your hubby that often not all the jobs that are in the papers are posted online. That is one reason I go to the library frequently to read the papers and look for just the perfect job.

yeah, I think they might be a good idea, if you don't know how to type in the first place... things are HOT in Texas - I'm ready for a BREAK in the weather!

Yeah, I'm with you, I hate the new keyboard but the trackpad is what really drives me to drinking, if you rest your wrists, then you hit that pad and everything is all over the place. So how are things in Texas?

I am so happy for you and yes, I have been without a computer. The first time was May of 2007 and it was in Sept of that same year that a Myspace friend offered us their extra one. We had a windows XP a friend built for us and the replacement was a windows 98. It had no sound and I couldn't play videos, but I was able to be active here. The 98 only lasted until Jan of 2008 and we had no money for a new one or even a used one. So for 15 months I had to go to the library if I wanted to get online. No privacy and limited time really sucked. But I didn't waste my time, it was during this time that I wrote my story. ;) Then I think it was Feb or mar of this year that this guy whose wife worked with my husband offered to build us one and he gave it to us..:D This is a dell and has windows XP and to compare it with the other XP? They are about equal except the fact that our speakers for the other computer were shot, so I have to listen using earphones and my husband doesn't want me to buy them online, yet he won't buy them offline..:( I think this is so he doesn't have to hear my music..lol

Oh this computer is excellent other than needing speakers, so I really can't complain other than I can't watch videos with my son..

When I got my early retirement I was given some money in the deal as well and bought a brand new top of the line Dell Inspiron in 2007. The warranty on it is up the end of this year. I am hoping to get another one of them from HSN this time as I could pay in afew installments. Hope to do that next year. Glad you got a new one and not having to use the ole dinosaur anymore.

I'd probably go berzerk if I had to do that. I can remember when my keyboard went out on my first laptop and I didn't know it. Wasn't real savvy back then. I had more fun trying to type until I figured out I had a problem. I thought I hadn't set the margins right or something on the prosessor I was using. Such fun! Ya, these new founded things are fast. I can type pretty fast when every thing is working right!!

I chose to use a new computer. as a programmer, I shall always keep up with technology. so I have to always update on the development of software and hardware, although I do not have a computer or laptop that hitech, at least I know its development. specification of the current laptop I have is: compact 515, processor AMD Athlon X2 QL-66, 1GB DDR2 memory, 250GB hard drive HDD, DVD ± RW, NIC, WiFi, VGA ATI Radeon HD3200 128MB (shared), Camera, 12 "WXGA, Windows 7 opertaing system. I buy from My friend six months ago with a price of about $ 460. sorry if my words are not appropriate or less pleased with my sentence, I was just learning English.

Thanks for coming here to learn English. "if my words are not appropriate. . ." That was a good phrase. "or less pleased with my sentense" That one indicated English is your second language. Maybe "or incorrect, but I am learning English" might be better for you. Since you are a computer programmer, you do have to keep up with technology. I just have to be able to look for work and respond to employers. I do like youube for "how to do thingns" videos and learning American Sign Language. Thanks for responding and take care.

I bought my Compaq laptop as a New Year's gift for myself in 2009. It's good until now. It felt so good since I had been using the desktop computer for about 10 years. With the latter, it had to be plugged in to the socket everytime I used it so it had high electricity consumption.

I here you. My desktop used lots of electricity. This is an energy star, so it should use much less electricity. That's great that you had a new computer for New Years in 2009, congrats. Take care and thanks for your response.

I recently bought a laptop, not for my self but for my sister. She needs it for her studies. As for me I haven't bought one since my uncle bought me this computer I'm currently using 3 years ago. Rather than buying I just upgrade what I have and since then the only part that I haven't replaces is my processor. I'm thinking of buying a simple laptop for me, possibly a netbook next year. I don't think I can live without a computer.

How wonderful I too have a great laptop with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. Let me say that I also have a laptop stand so it sits up high as it it were a desktop PC. So I have the benefits of using at my desk and or take it with me to bed and lounge when I use it. I do not know if mine is better but I can tell you it is faster than rolling thunder

Congrats on getting a new laptop. I too want to buy a new system. My present desktop computer is slow and sometimes gives me issues with the internet too. May be will go for an all in one from HP, but need to wait till I pay off the car loan. Want to save as much as possible and payoff the loan so that I can be free of loan. Then I can save for a few months and buy a new system. By there there will be some new and better technology available. Hopping it to be cheaper too. Congrats once more for the new Laptop.

I wish I could have used my computer for 8 years. At 7, mine became toast. It had to be ungraded and rescued from oblivian 2xs. The hundreds toward this could have gone toward a washing machine. So I see your parents dilema. Thanks for responding and take care.
