Uh Oh - Company's Coming

Hey everyone! When you have someone coming over, say, a repairman or something - do you rush to clean the house before he gets there? Do you not care since it's just a repairman, and not someone who you need to impress? Or is your house always clean so it doesn't matter who comes knocking at your door?

hi ldyjarhead oh my our last apartment was so much smaller than the one we moved out of and our living room was filled with boxes and boxes so if a repairman or repairpreson came they just had to ignore it as we had no extra storage space and no garage just a car port.So yes around the boxes myliving room was always clean anyway.now I am not in an apartment so do not have those worries but maybe one day soon my son can get us both moved into a two bedroom apartment as he finally does have a job.

I gotta rush and clean a little at least, or let hubby handle it, cause he does not care. My house is always an absolute wreck. I only remember a few times in my life when I kept up with it really consistently. Nice to see you here.

I'm not the world's best housekeeper either, mostly because it's usually just me here and I rarely get company. Why do something and just have to do it again a few days later, over and over? So yea, I tend to tidy up when I know someone's coming, no matter who it is.

I rush and pick up and try to make it look a little more presentable. I don't know why, I know they have seen it all. It just makes me feel a bit better I guess if I do make the house a bit more presentable.

Hey, Ldy! Ya got company coming? I usually try to make the place look at least halfway presentable if someone's coming over, even a repairman.

No, but I had a guy that was supposed to come look at some work I had for him to do. He never showed. That's a topic for another question.

I've had that happen, too. Guess some people just don't want the work.

I do a rushed cleaning job. My house is never clean.. I have 5 kids and I tend to be lazy. But I don't want the repairman to know I'm lazy. Even while he's there repairing whatever I busy myself with cleaning chores, like more dishes or folding laundry or something.

Cleaning BEFORE the coming of a repairman? Are you kidding? I still remember the plumber who came in my house a few months ago. I had a lot of pain to clean up after him :)) But without joking I have to prepare the house if I wait for guests, I can't keep it in order.

I am the type that runs around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to clean and straighten my house. I will never get an award for the cleanest house. It isn't dirty dirtiest either. I do clean it several times a week. Just might sweep and dust and straighten things put stuff away stuff like that. If it is a repairman. With family and friends it is different. I will clean way more then just the living room and kitchen..Ugh! which reminded me I have company company coming this week and need to get busy washing walls and hunting cobwebs even though they spring back up in a few days. And cleaning closets out.

Most of the time unless we know at least a couple of days in advance and have the time, we find ourselves picking up, vacumming, etc right before they get there. And there have been times we just have never considered changing anything due to the short amount of notice as well. But when it comes to making a Good impression I feel you should always try to at least straighten things up somewhat.

I clean up any means if a repairman is coming even though he doesn't know me, I still don't want him to feel uncomfortable, with fibromyalgia, I do the best I can, but I can't always keep the house tiptop

Well, I like our house to be tidy if a repairman is coming around, but it's not always possible to get it all done. So what we do then, is straighten up the rooms that he is likely to want to go in! _Derek

My house is as clean as I can get it, but if company is coming, I go the extra mile to make it cleaner and less cluttered. There are times I have to lug boxes out of my living room because my husband can't throw anything away and if company is coming or I get sick of it, he knows it is going to be thrown in one of the other rooms..

I straighten up rather than clean. I'm not the best housekeeper--my home looks lived in. There are dog toys on the floor, an empty glass on the table, I don't vacuum more than once a week although I should. There is dust on the baseboards and the fan needs cleaning although I'm the only one who notices since I'm the only one going up and down the stairs to see the top of the fan. My kitchen floor needs mopping. My house isn't dirty, the dishes are always done, the fridge is kept clean as is the stove, and I'm fairly neat. I just need to do some deep cleaning and I'm waiting for my back and joints to get better to I can tend to it! Haven't seen you for quite awhile, hope you have a great birthday and are doing well!

I'm doing ok, thanks. Just spending most of my time doing other things and don't get back here too often. I should, but now that it's not an everyday thing, I forget.

Well, my house is definitely NOT always clean. I wish it was! When a repairman or somebody like that is scheduled to come to my place I try to do a quick pickup of the place... at least the area where I know he/she will be working. Like the other day, my kitchen faucet was leaking so I made sure all the dishes were out of the sink and put away and that the sink was presentable for him to do his job.
